94 YJ 4wd doesn't' work.

Hi, Guys I have a 94 YJ and my 4WD isn't working. I looked at the actuator and my switch for it has been frayed. (see pic) I was wondering where to get that switch? Alot of people talk about the switch on the transfer case but this one is on the axle. Also would this switch cause my 4WD not to engage?

That switch only turns the light on the dash.

Agreed, just because the light doesn't come on, doesn't mean it's not in 4wd. Take it either to a parking lot and do a tight turn when in 4wd. If it lurches around, it's in 4wd. Or gravel road and do a burnout to see if they all are spinning. Or jack up front and back and see if they all spin.

Jack stands are a much better route. They're cheap and allow to see what is turning instead of what is rolling.

I know it says not to engage it on dry pavement, but I have read this test in the faqs section when I first started reading jeep forum. It hasn't caused me any problems. Maybe I should have specified, do this at an extremely slow speed. That's what I do, I knew it was in 4wd in less than 180 degrees of turn. I don't know, it may be wrong, but my t case is still going strong and the only work I have ever done on it was the rear output shaft seal. Has no one else down this to test it?

Sorry it wasn't the FAQ section but it was in a post in 2006. All the ways I said are mentioned here and no one said it would be a problem if you take it slow.

I know it doesn't work because I got stuck in the sand when I had it in 4WD and the front didn't engage.. So could it be my solenoid on the transfer case is bad as well? And lets say I fix this 4WD light switch will it only light up is power to the axle is applied or just when the vacuum solenoid engauges?

Just when the vacuum activates your cad. The thing sticking out on the passenger side. So you have a vacuum problem somewhere.

Adopt your pets. Don't shop for them.
