i have this 92 wrangler im working on and the driveside floor is rusted out. i was just going to use some sheet metal but i think im going with the premade one you are suppose to weld in. my question is who has done this with not cutting it out and able to fit it over the old with alittle cutting and hammering and then just welding or screwing it down over the old one ? think i can do that and not have any problems? what have you guys done let me know thanks?
You could put it over the original but unless ALLLLLL the rust has been cut out and bare metal treated the rust will continue to spread. Then your money and time will have been wasted instead of doing it right the first time.
i wire wheeled most of it and painted with flat black oil based . i was going to leave some of the rusty parts in for support. i guess i wont need it when i found out how thick the 18 guage is and then realize i dont need the support underneath.hmmm
I'm an ok welded but wasn't excited about doing both my floor pans...so I cut out most of it, leaving a 1.5" lip, then placed the new pan in place with a sealant between the joints and rivited in place (rivet ever 2") ...Herculined so you can hardly tell..
