a guy i know just picked up a 91 YJ that is in pretty good shape. of course it needs a little work, but he got it for a steal for the shape that it is in. full doors and hard top, and i think he is going to keep the hard top, planning on a roof rack and all that.
here is my question. i own a tj, so the only research i have really done is for tj's. he has some 32x11.50 bfg's on some 5x5.5 rims that he is wanting to put on it, and is going to use some spidertrax adapters (unless he decides to buy some 5x4.5 rims) and i was just looking for some info on what you all think he should do as far as the lift goes. i have a rough country lift on mine that i really like, so i decided to look through the rc lifts for yj's and saw that the leafs were known for sagging really bad, but rc upgraded their leafs and according to the people that have bought the new kit, they are fairly satisfied with it.
i guess what i am asking is what would you all do. i know this forum is loaded with people that know a ton of stuff about jeeps, and this is where i get all the information i could ever need for my tj (in the tj forum of course) so i thought this would be the best place to ask to point him in the right direction.
he is going to be using this as a daily driver, but will most likely have some trail time also, so he needs a functional lift, but would like to keep it economical...
would a 4" lift look bad with 32's? would a 2.5" lift need some shackles or a body lift to be able to clear 32's properly? what brand do you think he should run? any information you all want to throw my way would be appreciated...
one last thing, he still ahs the stock leafs on it, and it is sagging to the point to where his 30's that are on it now only have an inch or two clearance from the fenders, so i am thinking that a 2" lift will actually give him 4 or 5" of lift from where he is sitting right now. also, does how well do the stock shackles hold up? does he need to replace his shackles even if he gets the stock size? etc etc
