Looking to do an economical swap of a 4cyl engine in my 90 Wrangler. Not looking to spend $7K...want it more reasonable...can anyone offer advice??? Thanks
We swapped a 2.5l out and put in an I-6. I would recommend doing a gear swap, and maybe headers/exhaust. We spent about 40-50 doing the swap as to retain EFI in the 4.0l. There are many things you don't think about when doing the swap: Battery location, Vacuum system, Computer location, Air induction, New fuel pump/ sending unit (2.5 won't work with 4.0), Need to upgrade the transmission, Change the spline to 23 count on the input shaft into the transfer case, All of the bolts and fluids needed the refill (oil, atf, power steering, etc.) PLAN, PLAN, PLAN. So none of this stuff will sneak up on you. HTH.
Yep. We've got the engine, tranny and transfer case. Along with the wiring, vacuum, and most of the hoses.
