'90 YJ Build

Hello everyone I am currently beginning to rebuild my 1990 Jeep Wrangler into the rig i've always wanted. To start off it will be my daily driver with occasional to often off-road use, so I want something inbetween the stock that it is now and some of the heavy duty offroaders i've seen here.

Currently running the stock 4cyl. engine, and everything else is stock. This summer is was rebuilt to get it working and sturdy as it was on the beach for 5 years and hardly working/extremely rusting. I added a couple things such as bumper extensions and painted the grill metallic silver. Most parts were replaced with the stock parts because I had no money over the summer.

Current issues: Bad oil leak, loud ticking/tapping noise from 1st cyl?, dead battery hardly works, large crack in windshield from wheeling

Here is a pic as it is now,

Things I would like to do: Lift (spring or body? maybe both?), Larger tires/paint the wheels black, tube fenders, hardtop/fulldoors, engine swap (4 to 6 cyl.), repaint body, CB Radio (I have one, not installed), Winch (I have one, not installed), replace stock battery!, change interior color to black/grey, bedliner, replace sport roll bars for better rear-seat protection, fog lights (possibly roll bar lights too), new bumpers, lockers?, new decals, a better sounding exhaust!

I will be updating and adding pics so keep an eye out!

I will also be posting pics of this past summers fix-up

Windshield frame rusted. Love the Quadratec kit for the windshield.

BTW, that a grill cover, or an actual grill?

So the guys and I decided to go offroading at 1 in the morning. Ended up losing a bolt off the maremount exhaust pipe and caused a pretty good leak. Sounded like a go-kart all day. Ended up 'making' a replacement bolt and sealed it so it won't fall off this time.

And I decided, after much debate, that I don't like the red color. I want to change it to a Khaki Green, but keep the grill color. No pics today, sorry.

Ah, Christmas! I didn't get anything special for the Jeep though. Just some armor all

I did have it checked out though by a mechanic and the ticking/tapping noise is said to be caused by the timing chain tensioner and the sprockets. So next week I am going to change them out and see what happens. If I can finally have a quiet(er) jeep then I'll be happy.

No more fender flares

Well because of the extensive body work I am doing/need to do the front flares are not staying on, but flapping in the wind. After looking up the Mass law it says I can't drive w/o them unless the vehicle is equipped with 4WD, so i'm going with that.

The right side, w/o the flares you can clearly see my rust problem (and the giant hole next to the passenger door.

The driver side isn't as bad, because this side was towards the house as the right side was towards the beach. (for almost 5 yrs it was parked) Its a bit more solid, but still rusted enough where the fender meets the tub area.

BY the way, I found this where the heep has been parked lately.

Do any of you have any ideas? Is it just oil? I checked where its parked right now and there is no leaks? Hoping it was one of our other cars..

Thats it for now, hopefully the po po will stay away from the heep

Sorry I couldn't say, i'm pretty much a newb to Jeeps.

In the past couple days, I BROKE my gear box off my chassis. Going to start repairs soon..

In the meantime I took a trip to the boneyard and found a nice 90 wrangler still together and grabbed whatever I could, a new(ish) radiator, a new speedo (only 5K higher than my old one), new antenna and cable, all new dash lights and caps, all the bumpstops (even found out there are 2 smaller ones in the rear??) and a few small things I pocketed for all $$50!

I will post pictures tommorow of the repair.

i think the first thing you should do is look or the jeep really good.(frame,body,motor,etc).figure out what your going to do with it and go from there. when i went shoping for my jeep i looked up what came in it how sturdy the parts where and went from there.looked over the jeep to make sure i had a something sturdy to start with and then went for broke.literally.

it look's like an oil leak.(the spots on the ground)

Yup, I do a complete check of the rig everyday, make a mental note of what is gone, what is good, and what needs immediate attention. Right now I need to repair the gearbox, and its back to being roadworthy.

As for the oil, I forgot to mention! The problem leak was my front differential, it had water in it due to a bad pinion seal. Changed the seal and fluids and did a little wheeling after. All good now!

Again, pictures tommorow

My CAMERA is lost!!

I just recently broke and fixed my chassis. The gear box broke itself off the chassis, from some tough offroading. Lot of welding, but I couldn't get pics!

Anyone willing to lend a camera...??
