'89 Wrangler 6 cyl auto -> main bearing out

Was just informed that my main engine bearing is going out. From what I have heard the cheapest thing to do is drop a new engine in.

Does it make sense to put a new engine in?
Or
Fix it the way it is?

If my best choice is the engine swap what engines specifically are compatible with my Jeep?

Thanks for any and all help!

The cheapest repair is a crank kit.

All engines are compatible with your jeep if you have enought time and know how or Money. The more know how you have the less money it will cost you. But for a direct bolt in you would need another 4.2. Do a compression test. If the numbers are good put a crank kit in it ansd be done.
