Ya thanks. I still don't know what to do. I read through all the SOA threads here and over on wrangler, and still am not convinced thats what I want either.

Not much is going to happen yet this spring anyway. I still need to prep and fix the frame. In a couple weeks I go back to the grind working away from home all week till next fall. This will be the time that I save my gopher money and ordering parts for next falls building season. My goal is to have it completed in a couple winters from now, but we will see how that goes too.

I guess when the first parts start getting delivered here we will know which way I went. After that its history and no looking back.

Matt

Hope I don't get banned if there is Ballistic Joints in the first order.

Got a donor!!!! Wife approved a new DD for me when it comes time for the jeep to get a the engine. So out with the 4.2 and in will go a 99' 5.3 and auto tranny, with 108k on it now, probably 20K more by the time I need the engine.

Also...........I forgot about my Grandpa's old 77 ford f250 that I used to ride in when I was a kid every day in the summer to from his gravel pit. Its sitting out behind my dads shop in MN where I grew up. A 300 ride out there this weekend to get the axles is in the plans. What ever they are........its free, and memories of my childhood days with my Grandpa will aways be a part of my jeep.

With money saved on axles and engine now makes the linked Idea a possibly.

You'll know whether the front is any good....if it's low pinion, don't waste your back pain on getting it. Take the rear and call it a day ! The 5.3 will be an awesome addition to the drivetrain, as it will significantly reduce the amount of crawl ratio you need :-) Good plan sir !!!

Its great. We took out our wood stove in the basement and put one in there last winter. Really liked how it worked and without the mess, so we got a second one for the garage this year. Takes about $4 a day worth of pellets to keep the 28'x36' garage 65deg F when it is single digits outside.

Get the axles torn down yet ??

I finished grinding all the mounts off mine on sunday. Gonna get them sand blasted in the next few weeks to get the remainder of the 35 years of crud off them. Then start ordering parts !

I wish, I was just looking at the lock out caps on the front and thinking what are the odds of them hex cap screws coming out.
