88 yj 4.2l lower raditor hose issues

I bought an 88 yj woth the 4.2l engine and was changing all the belts hose etc and ran into a problem with the lower radiator hose. I have purchased 3 stock hoses and one universal spring type hose for it. The universal spring hose kinked. The 3 factory hoses kink as well. Am i missing something or is this a common issue?

I would say, not a common issue. Stock hoses from rockauto fit fine on mine. My aftermarket radiator has the wrong size hose sleeves on it, which is a different story, but the stock hoses still worked okay.

+1 on shooting us some photos.

I'll show you mine, if you show us yours.

Don't know when the OP will be back...

But just for discussion sake.

Are the hoses kinking, or are they collapsing? Kinking would simply mean they don't fit the application. Collapsing can mean the wrong coolant pump, a high flow custom pump, or some restriction in the flow. Some cars are notorious for it, and some even come standard with a spring inside the hose to prevent it. Anyone can stick a spring in there, which could help with kinking too.

I've never heard of any of those problems with a 4.2 in a YJ.

Some hoses are designed to fit multiple vehicles. They have the same basic curves and bends, but have longer straight sections, sometimes an extra bend on the ends that are intended to be trimmed when installing. If you don't trim them they'll kink up.
Normally if you look up the part number and it has multiple vehicles listed, it's intended to be trimmed. If it only lists one vehicle it should be a direct replacement.

The hose kinks as if it doesnt fit. Ive gotten two new hoses (direct fit) and one universal with the spring inside and it even kinked.
