No. the 87 shared the valve cover from the CJ's. 88-90 4.2's use an aluminum cover and different mounting bolts. Quadratec sells replacement plastic covers and aluminum covers that are made to specifically replace the plastic ones. Give them a call..

I had to replace it on my 87 as well. I was lucky enough to get a pretty knowledgeable parts person on the line at the local Jeep dealer and they actually had some in stock, so you might want to try your dealer.
If somebody hadn't mangled my 87 I'd pull the part number for you.
Funny enough I just ran into the same issue... The reman engine I got was drilled for a plastic cover not an aluminum one even though I ordered the aluminum one. So i can either go with one of these plastic ones or get an aluminum replacement from Qtec..... nother 50-100 I didn't expect to spend
Both styles were available... I think they continued to use CJ heads untill they ran out. The heads are different only in the location and number of holes. There are 7 holes in the CJ head and about 15-18 in the YJ (plastic cover)
I don't mind writing for Fernando because he reads, and re-reads EVERY WORD!... Good to write for someone that actually READS the answer, and takes time to UNDERSTAND what comes back for an answer!
