87-91 yj sound bar?

Was a sound bar an option on and of the packages from 87-91? I was thinking that it was an option on the Sahara package.

I don't know if it was offered but the 95' family style rollbar I just installed has one. You could drill the sportbar to mount one from a later year. The factory bar is OK... 2 -4 1/2" speakers. I just wish I had the interior light!

No it was not, but as said above, you can install a 92-95 bar with little to no issue.

or you can install a TJ sound bar if you have the correct plugs or you know how to wire things properly

Not sure if it was an option for back then... But I just finished installing my new VDP soundbar, two 6 1/2's and maplights... speakers sound good but I'm to lazy to finish wiring up the lights at this point.

I ended up just making my own. The money I saved making it let me spend it on some JL component speakers. The dome light I used is out of an older DSM I think. It works really good, but it was a pain in the *** to make sorta. Plus it vibrated until I put Dynamat inside it. Sounds great now though.

The speakers wont last, unless you like having to strain your ears even when you're not moving.

the reason I was asking was because I just traded my family bar for a sport bar with somebody and the pads were set up for a sound bar. The guy said it came like that OEM. The forward pads are shorter in the back while the bars themselves have 2 holes on either side in the back, while the main part of the bar has two slits in the pads for where you wrap the back of the sound bar in. I just thought it was a little weird because I haven't ever seen an older yj with a sound bar.

I had to install mine over the front seats, in front of the center hoop, due to the 94' family bars being to close together (TJ bars are straight back) - I got it before they came out with the separate pods...just a note.
