As to the poll, im partial to the bars in my 95, but i can see where the 86-91s are appealing to those going for more of a CJ look... <shrug> you can turn the "sports bars" into a full roll cage relatively easy, as soon as he gets a pipe bender, my buddies gonna make a prototype for his jeep that ill probably do for mine. Basically a pipe is gonna be welded to the bars that hold the windsheild in place. thats gonna go down through the tub and be welded to the frame. then theres gonna be another bar welded across the two windsheild supporters thus forming a cage.

Both bars are made from the same material. As a fabricator it's much easier to add to the later model YJ bar for more rear protection. The bars going to the windshield are JUNK on the YJ's - a real front cage should be added to either YJ or CJ factory cage.
I like the triangulation of the CJ bar but it is lacking in rear passenger protection.

Here are a couple shots of a recently rolled YJ with the CJ style bar and the bars that used to go to the windshield. The bolts sheared off at the main hoop leaving the windshield bars to beat the occupants!
Other than cuts.scrapes nobody was injured. The Jeep rolled 3 3/4 times BTW.

I have the older style and I will trade with anyone who wants it. I have been looking for the newer style for a while. I am in Delaware.

Since I'm getting a '92, it has the bar I don't like....I'd be more than willing to trade you. What color is it? Also, what color is your interior? b/c we'd have to switch seatbelts too.

My jeep is red with gray interior and my seat belts are black lapbelts. I am not real worried about the color because I can always paint it. I believe they are a direct swap except there is one bolt that wont fit in mine. Let me know
