87-90 Carb Swap Questions - going to older BBD CJ type w/o stepper motor - thoughts

Hi guys,
I was wondering if any of you with 4.2's swapped in a BBD type carburetor WITHOUT the stepper motor and if you had any problems.

There are new ones available online that are the BBD type and they are a stock replacement to the older CJ ones, and I've known a few people that swapped them in essentially to dumb down the carb and have it run better and more efficient than the ones with the stepper motor. As far as I know, they just left the plugs there and tuned the carb and used them as is...but I wanted to confirm with any of you on here if you have done that as well.

I'm not interested in any other carbs like the Motorcraft, Holley, Weber, I just need the info on the Carter BBD type.

I'm wondering does this need to be combined with the Nutter Bypass, or is that just something to do additionally to help?

Thanks!

BBD carb

I have an 88 YJ and put an old non-stepper BBD on with the nutter and it runs very well. Also did the stealth HEI module. If the new type of carbs are like the old ones it should be OK.

Have heard of it being done before and you should be fine. Not sure what vehicle you are doing it to, but if its set up the same as the later model CJ's and early YJ's just make sure you bypass the computer so it doesn't mess with your ignition. AKA Nutter bypass
