700r4 Trans....

how would a 700r4 trans and a 208 work in a jeep with SBC ? Mostly mudding, sand and daily driving ?

Work great, just got to get new front axle as the output is passenger side. You can bolt up a front half chevy 231 and the back half jeep 231 and keep front axle yu got.

700r4 came in lots of different chevys. It has a fairly low first gear and overdrive and is pretty strong

The older ones are non electronic and the ones with a big "K" cast into the case are the heavy duty version.

It will do just fine. Make sure you gear the diffs down enough, too high of gears with large tires puts alot of stress on the internals which equals heat. Heat = failure.

Case and point; 3.73 gears with 38" TSLs and a stout 350 equates to burned up 3rd gear and no OD. But, I still get 65 mph at around 2,200 rpm in 2nd gear. Been driving it like that for 6 months now.

I had a few 700R's in mine before I went back to manual. Granted I bought all of mine from a pick and pull so who know how bad they were to begin with, but hey you cant beat $70 with a 30 day warranty with a stick. After pulling it out the last time I realized the TCC lock up was not wired correctly so I dont think I ever had overdrive. Just make sure you adjust the kickdown cable correctly or you can wear out the clutches. The "newer" 4L60E is way more abundant now, but it will require you to tap a VSS in the tail of the trans to get it to shift properly. I am not sure if the 4L60E has its own computer or runs off another Engine ECM, but it gets its input from the VSS for its shift points. There is also a beefier 4L80E. Good luck!

@ 87TPIYJ.... Do u know the proper way to wire it ?? I'm picking it up 2mrw, he told me it was rebuilt with 11k miles on it... He believes it out of a 1982 Chevy truck...

There are a couple of differnet ways to wire it. You can use manual switch or a pressure switch. There are kits out there for a pressure switch. You can also run both. Just your preference.
Google 700r4 wiring diagrams and pick the one you like. Here is a you tube of one of the kits.
