the $700 YJ build up...

Well I dragged it home last week and have slowly been getting to do a few minutes of work on it here and there so I figured I would start a build thread to update when I get anything done. Keep in mind I have a 2.5 year old and a 5 month old so free time to work on the jeep is very limited. Here what I brought home:
87 YJ Laredo, 258, auto, NP231, D30, D35, 3.54s, pretty much all stock and been sitting for a while.

It still had the stock Carter carb and all the emissions crap but most of it wasnt hooked up or done wrong. It also would not run for more than a few seconds and at about 2000 RPMs. All of that came out and I picked up a slightly used MC2100 with the adapter to swap on from a guy swapping to a 4.0. I also did the Nutter bypass and relocated the ignition module so it will be alot easier to troubleshoot and replace if needed. I got most of that finished up today and after trouble shooting a fuel issue I got it to fire up and run on its own for a few minutes. I still need to adjust the timing and double check for any vacuum leaks and see if the electric choke is going to work but it sounded pretty good and I was actually able to move it under its own power. I also want to test the fuel pump and do a compression check but ran out of time for today. Once I see want kind of shape teh 258 is in I will decide if I keep it or look for a 4.0 to swap but so far it seems pretty good.

Yeah man, thanks again. I may take you up on that, tranny now that its running I can check it out more and see where I'm at. I will definitely keep it in mind, maybe just to pick up and do the breather mod and keep around in case I swamp mine.....

Looks pretty darn good for 700.00$, just can't hack an automatic in a jeep though. However, for 700 bucks, could learn to love it.

Wow, $700 is cheap money, especially considering how good it is for it's age. If that Jeep lived its life in the Northeast it is truly a rare find, considering the rust issues we have. Congratulations!

Wow! Judging by the pictures, you got yourself a darn good deal for $700. I wish I could find deals like that!
