5 speed swapped 94 yj wont start!!

I tried this once, but my title sucked and nobody looked at it so here is the same thread with a new title...

My dad built a 94 yj. NEW frame, rust free tub from down south, 4.0 from a 95, ax-15 from a 94 blah blah... The wiring harness is from a 94 auto. The computer is from a 94 4.0 5 speed. We grounded the middle wire from the nss and the other 2 to the reverse lights. It will start if you jump the solenoid. To rule out the obvious so I don't get the same answers... EVERYTHING that could be related is new from mopar including starter, alternator, fuel pump, ALL sensors ckp, cmp, map, tps, battery cables... basically a brand new 94 wrangler. We tried the auto ecm too and still nothing with the key. Did we do something wrong with the nss? Is there something in the dash/ column we could have missed? Maybe a bad ignition switch? Any other ideas??

91 YJ 4.0 ax-15. 3 inch lift, 31 10.5 15 swamper tsl's, Camo paint.

Obvious to me but maybe not to others. But maybe the start relay? At least I think that's what it's called. Mine had a bad ground could jump it but the key was useless.

If you look at the chassis wiring schematic the problem cause will be evident. There's only one or two components that are between the key and the starter.

If you trace out the start wiring the 12 volts will dissappear somewhere along the way and there you will find your problem.

Sent from my phone because I'm doing something "more important"

Current Project: None... I disgust myself.

Swapped the relay for the horn relay before trying anything else. Where would someone locate this schematic you speak of? Wiring is not my specialty... I hate wiring and it hates me! I would rather do a complete drivetrain swap on a rusty, mud covered jeep than wire up a toggle switch!

I had the wires for the reverse lights unplugged from the harness on the pass side of the trans once doing some exhaust work and mine would 't start.

Plugged it back in and I was in business.

My Chilton book has all you will need. Otherwise you can google yj 4.0 chassis wiring schematic and you should find what you need.

As the schematic shows the ignition switch goes to the coil of the starter relay, then to the starter solenoid.

You should see 12V at the little light green wire on the starter solenoid. if not trace backwards. There should be a dark green wire on the starter relay this is your "start" from the ignition switch. If there is not 12V here when you turn the key to "start" then your problem is with the tumbler. Or in my case there was no continuity from the relay coil ground to ground. So I had a bad ground.

My guess is still with the starter relay. The schematic shows there is a wire direct from the battery to the starter relay then to the starter solenoid. It's really quite a simple circuit.

Get your volt meter. Trace some wires and let us know what you find.

Is the dash harness or engine harness from the auto? Or both?

Is there a neutral safety switch that comes into play here with the auto harness?

Ok, the starter relay has 4 colors of wires. A red one that tests 12v +, a brown one tests ground, a yellow one that engages the starter if it gets 12v power and 2 brown with yellow tracer (goes to the same pin) that doesn't show current no matter what we do with test light or key. The wire going to small terminal on solenoid is brown. We can not get the jeep to turn over by potting power to any of the wires going to the ignition switch, none of them match the wires at the starter relay.
