5.3L Vortec / 4L60E Engine swap

Got a 91 YJ with the crappy 2.5L and AX5. Uncle owns a body shop and is donating a totaled 2003 Tahoe 4x4 to me. Has the 5.3L vortec engine, 4L60E tranny, and it has the 4x4 transfer case that is electronically controlled. Every write up I have seen, people use the NP231 from their jeep. Why cant I use the electric transfer case that is already on the setup?

Cheers

I don't know if the Transfer case out of the Chevy is a Passenger or Driver side drop, but the reason people use the NP231 is because it's strong, and typically it's already compatible with their front Axles, being it's a driver side output.

Nice you got a free motor! I'm trying to find a good deal on a healthy 4.0 at least.

You stole my idea.

Please do a write up. In the next 3 to 4 years that is my plan.

+1 Make sure the front driveline is a drivers side drop before making any plans. If you're willing to switch over all the electronic sensors and wiring harness along with the computer then I don't see why it couldn't work.

it can be done, the question is... why? That tahoe likely has the auto switching TC, which is a turd IMO (my avalanche has that case and I hate it)
