This thread should definately be saved at some point. You can see all us blue oval boys drooling over this. Keep the pics comin bud, we're definately hooked. Man, I'd love to have that fuelie ford under the hood of my jeep. The 5.0 emblem on the rear where 4.0 usually goes would be totally awesome.

Man, I can hear it with flowmasters now... sheeeeesh....

Yep that is what mine looks like. Pretty easy to put on. They recommended taking the tranny out. But I left it in and it was still easy. That apdapter was worth the money. The motor mounts on the other hand I could have made them. The headers summit have for about 190 bucks. More for chrome.

Summit Part #
ADD-717012-NP Headers
ADD-712543 AX15 to Ford bellhousing adapter
ADD-713006 Weld in motor mounts

Alot people tryed to get me to put 350 Bowtie in it. But I didn't want to go with flow being a Ford lover. But everywhere I read about the Ford swap they say the 302 goes in so much easier. Even radiator hoses line up unlike a Chevy.

I know. You can tell a Mustang out of a crowd of 500 other cars. Especially with Flowmasters. Imagine that sound coming from a Jeep that is pwning a hillside.

Sorry for my bad english. It´s just from school 20 Years ago.

My 91 GT has MAC equal length headers and Pro Chamber going into Flowmaster two chamber with dumps. They sound good then when I added the NOVI 2000 they got real loud. Before the blow mid 90s Z28 would eat my lunch. The NOVI is super quiet so I can sneak up on them now. I drove by one this last year and he was pulling off the highway I revved at him he turned around and chased me (probaly thought this should be easy). Then he pulled up next me we were going about 35mph. So punched and he did I pulled on him so fast he back off. Then we came up to stop light there was empty spot on both sides of one in the turn and one on straight he pulled in the turn. And then is buddy was like does that have a supercharger? I was like yeah and 500hp. His eyes got big and then drove off.

I am also running VICTOR JR. Heads and VICTOR 5.0 intake. And a ton of other mods I have about 26k in my Stang. And I still have alot of work to do.

This sounds like an awesome idea. I really wish I could do it, but I'm lacking in $$ and mechanical skills. Maybe someday...

Few questions for ya. I have a 92 with a knocking 4.0. I have decided to do the same swap when the 4.0 finally goes.

When you mention your swap, you say you took the bellhousing off a Ford manual trans. Any specific manual transmission, or are the bells all the same so long as they bolt up to a smallblock?

How do you plan to get the computer to deal with the guages in the jeep, or are they not compupter controlled on these year Fords? If not computer controlled, I guess just the Chrysler sending units bolted to the Ford engine?

Since a lot of the autos in Fords were the AOD-E units, have you taken this into consideration? Will the computer go into a safe mode based on its lack of input from the lack of an automatic transmission? I live in NJ and am forced to put up with their inspection rules...so I am sure they will NOT be happy with the swap i the first place...but if they cannot get computer codes out, or find engine codes they will not pass me. I would hate to have the check engine light on because of the lack of an automatic trans.

You mention that if you were to do it again, you would build your own mounts for the motor. Would you be willing to give dimensions for the mounts you purchased so I can do my best to fabricate something similar?

I think that is enough for now.

Thanks,

Anthony

Ford EFI is one of the easiest to swap into anything. The computer doesn't care if there is Tranny there or not as long as you take the motor out of a AOD not AODE car. The AOD cars were still mechanical controlled not computer. My Mustang was AOD I put Tremec in it and it's still running fine on stock computer. The computer only controls fuel and timing. The Check Engine light will only come on when you put a free flowing exhaust on it. Cause it make the O2 sensor go crazy. You should be able to get a chip made to help. Make sure take the wiring from the 5.0 car you take motor out of. I got lucky cause guy I bought motor from had it in Ranger so it was already all rewired. You can use all the Ford sensors.

The gauges are all mechanical on a Ford like Jeep. I am going to put Autometer in my Jeep as I get the money and time. The bellhousing you need is off a 87-88 F150 with 4 speed or 5 speed. Those were the only years Ford used a slave cylinder and bellhousing you can remove. In 89 they started using Mazda tranny which is one piece tranny and bell. 86 and older they used mechanical linkage. The bellhousing can be of straight six or 302 or 351 cause they are all the same bolt pattern. You still need 302 flywheel which you can buy new from parts store about 100 bucks. I got used one from the bone yard cost me 50 bucks. You will need block starter shim plate. And slave cylinder and fork. If you can find 5 speed 87-88 they internal slave. And you need starter from that truck too. Ford used the same parts for years. I will get the measurements off the mounts later and post them.

Here is pic after I welded in the mounts and primed them.

Yea, knew the AOD was cable controlled...was hoping that the donor vehicle wasnt limited to an AOD only car...they are getting older and older. Such is life, though.

Nice to know on the trans...gives me something to look for since I am not ready to start the swap yet. However, rest assured I will be looking in the u-pull-it yards as time goes on for the pieces on the list I see.

Thank you for you time, and I would greatly appreciate the measurements when you do get the time

Anthony
