If it goes into 4wd (while rolling @ 5mph or less)... then what's the problem? Your 4wd is still working...

Are you really trying to shift the T-case while going 30 mph? It is NOT a shift on the fly case. And it's not a transmission with a clutch. You should be STOPPED while shifting the Tcase, or crawling very slowly, and not be in 4lo on pavement.

Are you trying to break your vehicle? It sure sounds like it.

this thread might give you some idea of whats going on.

and yes, yj's are supposed to shift on the fly from 2 hi to 4 hi. should glide right in at highway speeds(of course this should not be doen on dry pavement)

Mine wont shift on the fly if I havent used it in a while. The first time this season it was impossible to get mine to shift. Since it's been snowing regularly since then though, it's gotten alot better. I remember the same thing happening to me last winter too. By the end of the season it would slide in and out of 4HI easily.

I think the whole 8 years of no use is the reason it's so tough to shift right now. I'm sure it will shift on the fly better the more you use it. You just might have to muscle it in at first sometimes.

Well, it's hard to tell without actually knowing first hand exactly how stuck your shifter is and how strong your arm is, but I can tell you that I've never had any bent fork problems with mine, not that I know of at least
