I know it was, I was just saying my friend

I defend mine, but not to death. I think it just truly varies from Jeep to Jeep. One of these days though, mine will find a home in another Jeep after I do a swap

I'm runniing 33's with the 2.5 and 4.10's. I've never been disappointed on the trails however over the road unless I'm going down hill I don't see 5th gear much. Going up any sizable hills I use third gear. Its not my dd so it doesn't bother me much. I am thinking of regearing though.

I was going to run 35 but just like you i did some research and found that not only would 5th be useless but the D35 would fail sooner or later. I regeared the D35 with 4 88s and went with 33s and has worked great.

I run a 2000 2.5L on 35's with 4.88 gears and can do 70mph no problem on the highway. But your right without re-gearing anything bigger than 33 and 4.11 is worthless

WOW some of you guys must get a lot more power out of your 4 cyl than I do. Mine SUCKED when I went up to 33's from 31's. Now once I re-geared to 4:88's to does very well, not sure if it well enough for 35's.

But 33's on stock 4:10's is ok 35's no way.

I can quit drinking anytime I want, but hey I'm no quitter :)

Bottom line: If you want a larger then stock DD jeep wait for a 6cyl unless you are planning a motor swap.

The 4cyl just doesn't have the ponies to push a billboard down the freeway on the daily.
Coming from the guy building a 4cyl with 33x12.5s

If you can't afford a 6 or get a great deal on a 4 then by all means whatever gets you on the trail!

A DD shouldn't have 35's on it... That's defeating the purpose of a DD. A DD is a fuel efficient vehicle that you use to get from point A to point B, not something you can crawl over traffic

You might manage a whopping 12mph going downhill. That being said, my YJ has a 3.55 rear axle right now and even so with 29" tires I can do highway speeds. Takes a bit of time to get there but once i do I can get to 65 no problem. As long as I stay out of 5th gear I can even hit 75-80mph going down some slopes. But I don't ever do that because it sucks enough gas already.

The 4 banger is a very tough engine. It's amazing at what can be wrong with it and they will still purr like a kitten.

All about that unibody life.

For what it's worth, I have 4:88's with 33's in the 2.5. I drive over the Blue Ridge Mtns every day to work. I have to use 3td on the steep parts of rt 250. I can't keep enough speed to use the interstate going west (steeper incline). On flat ground, I can use 5th and go 70-75 no problem.

For those who say they have no problems on inclines, define incline.
