The 400 Dollar Wrangler build...

I Recently sold my LJ Rubihara, I know , but i really needed to free up some money for the new house and a new DD for my longer commute downtown. SO i picked up a WRX and decided to keep an eye out for a project. Since I was getting too adventurous in a $18k jeep, this time i wanted something i could roll, dent, scratch, and relaly not care at all...soo....I picked this wrangler up today..Got it from a guy at work in trade for a new smitty built 8k lb winch(about $400), and some CAD work, thats a deal if you ask me.

It is a bone stock 92 4 cyl, 5 speed wrangler...kinda rusty, over decent shape, run. the Rust you see in the pic is actually mainly surface rust from where the PO had some diamond plate..

The over all goal for the jeep is to clean it up, and take care of whatever rust I can, replace the fuel tank, swap in HP44 front and an 8.8 rear, regear, front locker, im sticking with a spring under lift for now. We will see how the progress goes.

My goal for this week is remove the interior clean everything up and then start work on the cage, followed by rhino line.

I also need to replace the winshield and frame, its rusted out and gone.

Ill keep you all updated as I go

Great start, where do you guys find these deals???? In this neck of the woods a complete wrangler with 4 tires that can be winched onto a trailer starts at a thousand bucks, even if the whole powertrain is shot.

I picked up my running yj for $1000 off craigslist. Just needed a freeze plug and some sheet metal work.

I used to check every few hours to see what popped up. I jumped on the phone when I saw mine for $1000, and I was about the 15th call. I happened to be the first to show up with cash the next morning though.

Looks like a heck of a jeep for $400. I'm sure it'll be more fun than banging around the trails and worrying about scratches and dents.

Garage
I got mine for 600(200 for the Jeep, 400 for the back registration ha) and all I had to do was rebuild the carb to get it running.

Op's looks way better though. Good deal.

Adopt your pets. Don't shop for them.

well getting this deal was easier for me because it was a work acquaintance, i didnt take any pics really from today, just the few below, iI stripped most the interior out, the spare tire/carrier is gone, and bumperettes are soaking in penetrating fluid, I cleaned the engine bay, and i also started trying to remove the cluster F of wiring from an old alarm system...Tomorrow I am going to clean the roll bar padding and inside of the jeep, then remove the windshield frame (cracked window, rusted out frame). I also need to stop by my dads and pick up the slide hammer and attempt to somewhat pull out the tub in the damged area as shown in the pics, I wouldnt care if it werent for the fact I am getting full length corners. I smell old gas very badly, im thinking I need to empty the tank, but I think if I do that I am just going to install a fuel cell....who knows, still a ways off.

Where is a good place to get do it yourself rhino liner/ what is the brand to use?

Where are some good deals on a window frame/weather stripping/sealant?

Thanks,
Kevin

FYI - this is my old Rig, I miss it dearly...but as you can see, for a jeep I still owed a good amount on, i was getting a little to aggresive and rolling, denting or scratching that would have been upsetting to say the least.

Monstaliner gets very good reviews. I have my kit waiting for me to get the time to work on it. Soon I hope.
