4 wheel drive not working

I have a 91 yj that the 4wd is not working. Does the 4wd engage electronically?

NO not electric, the fork in the front axle is shifted by vacume hoses, if your hoses are split or not hooked up the 4WD will not engage.

But there could be acouple other problems.

Could you give more information? What does it do, why are you under the assumention its not in 4wd?

Trying to sell it. While test driving we went into field put it in 4wd drive. Rear wheels would spin in clovers but not front

It's probably your CAD. It's always the CAD.

Central axle disconnect.

Lock your fork like this to fix it. Takes pliers, rtv, and 20 minutes of your life.

It should run off vacuum(depending on whether it's been modified). How is it not working? What I mean is, is the 4wd light coming on?

updated info

Update

4wd light not on. Front axle spins freely in 2wd and doesn't spin in 4wd. I disconnected the two lines from the top of control motor. I have a vacuum in 2wd but not in 4wd.(I had both lines disconnected at same time). Trace lines in engine compartment.........1 is not connected to anything (looks like a filter on end) the other is connected to a T with one going to engine and one going thru fire wall.....................see pics

What next

That's a pic of the E-clips holding the fork onto the shaft. The vacuum moves that shaft inside the actuator and the fork just rides along sliding the collar which locks/unlocks the two piece shaft. This modification locks the shaft in place with the fork so that it is permanently locked in a solid state. The only action needed to turn from 2wd to 4wd is now mechanical at the front yoke of the transfer case. No vacuum needed.

In the picture, the fork is usually locked between the two clips on the shaft, all you have to do is remove the clip opposite the side with the brass fitting in the picture, move the fork back and replace the clip in front instead of behind the fork.
