A multi meter will not register the pulse, its too quick I think. Maybe a non digital one will swing the scale a little though?
Noide lights are very cheap, and will be used again and again in fault diagnosis. I bought mine on the first 4.3 I did, and have used them LOTS since then, unfortunately
Do you have my number? I will PM it to you just in case.
Call me tomorrow afternoon or evening, I load in Tacoma first thing in the am out here (@10am your time!)

Martin

The part number for Advanced Auto is AC680.
Here they are on Flebay

Got mine from Advanced IIRC and they have worked just fine.

Could it be the ignition module inside the distributor ? Even though it runs on starter fluid? My distributer is a complete set up from a junk yard out of a running S10.
Going to sleep, getting up at 5.
Thanks again !

The modules on the ones I have messed with are separate and mounted inside.
they basically control ignition timing, so doubt that would have anything at all to do with the fuel injectors etc.
get some sleep and screw with it tomorrow, you gotta make some money to spend it on the thing right?

YJames90,

I know you want to find this electrical problem yourself. If you decide to go the Painless way, contact me. I have a brand new Painless truck harness that I am not going to use. There is only one thing you have to do to it. All parts come with it and I will even ship it to you. Cost for you is $150. If you want it, let me know.

I truly enjoy your post and the great advice you are getting. I wish you the best.

Take care,

I am almost embarrassed to say... I decided to relocate my fuse box from under the dash. Mainly because of convenience, also because jeep windshield seals are notorious for leaking... therefore, I relocated it under the hood inside a military first aid kit box. It is waterproof. The fuse box fits fine (or so I thought... I forgot about the height of the flasher) but I had to cut a hole in it for the wires. My plan was to have the wires feed through the bottom, and then seal it up with RTV silicon. Anyway I punched the hole for the wires BUT I only drilled the hole big enough to feed the immediate group of wires leaving the back of the fuse box... I could not, IN ANYWAY whatsoever feed the entire harness through the hole. (Because of my preferences, I didn't want to drill a hole larger and I figured out a better way to do this BUT NOT BEFORE I CUT ALL OF THE WIRES LEAVING THE FUSE BOX so I could feed that bunch through the hole.)

I labeled the wires and left plenty of space to reconnect them BUT it wasn't what I wanted. I decided to save up enough money and buy another unit and keep the wires connected. (Now I am just going to notch the box on the side and lay the wires in sideways. Then fill the notch with RTV.) Anyway, you can solder them together or use crimps... I tend to think crimps would be your best bet. Hard plastic tubular crimps generally don't short each other out when they rub together.) Either way, it is brand new, and a damn sight easier to figure out than what you have been laboring on. Also, Painless wires are the best in the industry. The insulated wires are much greater than the factory wiring AND it is brand new... This wiring will last you the life of your vehicle.

The Painless unit is a 12 Circuit system (Part # 10201). I have attached photos. One of the photos shows my hand as a size reference for how much space you have to work with the wiring... crimping the wires together, etc.

If you are interested, the cost is $150 and please pay by U.S. Post Office money order. I hope this helps.

Take care,

A quick recap of tonight
Bought a noid light set, no power to injectors.
Finally deceided to take the plastic cover off the wires and trace what actually went where.
Matched it all up to a pinout chart and labled it all.
Found out that I am missing a relay and its in the scrap yard in the S10 under the dashboard
Have the wires set to plug the relay in but Autozone says its dealer item
Called Martin and got a bunch of help and reassurance that it will work.
Now it all almost makes sense with the labeling done.
Very tired. Just got out of the garage at 9;50 pm Going to sleep

Another road block !
I need the part number of the relay that provides power , ignition and 02 sensor. Its a SPST 5 pin relay. It goes under the dash of the S10
Chevy needs a part number to look it up as does the autopart store. Cant find it in radio shack.
Thanks

I just had this printed up to 40" x 48 " in color !

Going to hang in the garage .

I was mentioning to a friend about relays and he happen to have this as a spare

It has a 87 and 87a but Im going to hook up the two wires both to the 87 as the correct relay has two 87s going internally to the same wire

Martin (Leftlane) is the man !!!
Thank you very much for the help over the phone!
I got the 4.3 running today ! I was so excited that you were the first person I called.
Your idea about running the 12 volts hot worked . I just tried it again without the battery 12 and got nothing..
Plugged it in and she purrs.
Sounds awesome with open manifolds in the garage.
This is what JF is all about . Man !! I got goose bumps !
Next on to the guages and cooling. Shift linkage then we are almost done. Things are going to be moving pretty quick from here.
Thanks to all that help with me so far.
Also thanks to AaronJ for that link to binderplanet. What a site that is ! So much info.

Hows this for a wire diagram ?

Congratulations!

It's an awesome feeling to hear that engine run for the first time in its new home.

(I may or may not have done the moonwalk when I heard mine fire up)

Hey, what did you use to print that? Is that something Kinko's or some other printing place could do? That looks cool.

Edit: What shifter did you go with?

You are more than welcome mate, although you did the work, I just gave suggestions.
Keep me posted on the progress, and of course any road blocks you run into from here on out.
