4.2L YJ - Air intake system - ?

Just a quick question:

Anyone have an idea about what to do with a 1988 YJ 4.2L that has the stock air intake? I need to get that hideous air cleaner off, but I've heard you must space-off any new air cleaner from the stock carb or it will run rich (or lean?! I dunno). Any ideas or anything anyone's already done other than another USD$300 carb?

This is for another YJ, not my RedDawn! My Weber runs NICE.

Dave

I never really worried about my air-flow on my Jeep .. I seemed to have enough power to turn my 33" tires ..

My only problem was making the engine last longer than a year ..

Air flow matters - High Altitude

Here in 4000'+ Northern Nevada, believe me, it matters. I put a K&N on my other YJ and it made all the difference in the world. I have K&N even in my employers' delivery van! So how the heck do I do it without the high $$$ carb?
