No I wired it up to the fuel pump relay thats tied to the ignition switch. I figured that part out now i am always keeping 40 psi. Now my problem is that sometimes i have weak orange spark at my plugs or sometimes i dont have spark at all. Usually to get it to spark it has to be boosted off. I have replaced the whole distributor and plugs. I am going to pick up a Crankshaft sensor today. When i quit working on it last night i went from sometimes having spark to no spark and not enough pawer to make the fuel pump run. I dont know whats going on.

cevans87, this is a really great thread. I've read about the first 18 pages so far. As it happens, I have a co-worker looking to scrap a '92 Cherokee Laredo that has the 4.0L HO and an automatic trans. He's asking $200, I gotta haul it off myself, and soon. I've already learned enough to know this is a great deal, I pick the Jeep up in three days (Saturday). There are a few particulars that I think I need to track down before I can make the swap.

I'm currently driving a 1980 CJ5 with what must be a special order engine... It's the 258 low compression version with a 1bbl carb. Now, my CJ5 is a 1980 and the "B" engine code is in the VIN even though it shouldn't be an option. I believe I've figured out (with the help of the forum) that my stroke is 3.90", giving me a compression ratio of 8:1. The issue arises that I've got a T170 3-speed in the Jeep now, but could also put in a T176 4-speed. I have both and all the hardware. If you would prefer I could PM you the specific details, rather than polluting your build thread.

Love the thread,
Thanks

Sorry Cevan. I didn't see you on in such a long time I thought you bailed. Glad to see you back posting and following your thread. I will bail on the thread and leave it alone. It is a great thread.

Red = Reverse

Green = Drive

you can wire Park, Reverse, Neautral, Drive (Not Overdrive), and 1-2

OverDrive has no connection between wires, the ecm see's it as an open circuit (which it is) which means I cannot put a light in
You could wire each of the other positions to a SPDT relay (single pole, double throw) and then wire the OD light through each of the normally closed contacts in series. Then it will only light if none of the other conditions exist, and as soon as one does it will go out. Half a dozen relays is quite a few to get another light, but if you want the light you could get it...

Half a dozen of these for less than $30 and a box of spade connectors, golden!

Wire it to the same plug the old unit was hooked to, you have to add the power wire, its on the body side of that plug but not the pump side... your current harness has 3 going into the plug and only 2 going out to the sending unit

X2 with cevans87. The wire has already been ran to the back, all you have to do is locate the Orange wire up at the fuseblock/bulkhead connector. This is what I had done. While you have the tank down, may I suggest that you replace the fuel lines. Make sure that you use lines that are rated for fuel injection.

No, cevans87 deserves all the credit, for it was him who had helped me in my conversion. I'm just merely another tool in the box.
