got some ? about the wireing. I am doing this swap on my 79 CJ and am not sure what all needs to be hooked up or where it needs to be hooked up to. All of the mpi parts came from a 93 XJ. Any wire prints or pics would be great. Thanks.

still wating to get my 4.7 stroker back from the machine shop so I can put it all back together. I know I will come back to this thred a few times for reference. I was happy to find the wire diagrams you shot me in the first few posts of this for my SJ. I think the wiring will be the real work part of my build. Still need to get ford 24lb injectors and the larger throttle body since I will be sucking in more air with this engine. Got a few folks seeing how a stroker will work in a SJ.

Got mine all back together. Cannot explain the feeling of pure accomplishment that I felt when I turned the key on this thing and it turned over the very first time. WOW! Now I just need to finish a few loose ends, such as completing the alternator hookup and the exhaust.

A huge thumbs up to CEVANS87 on all his help to make this work!

I recently finished this swap, thanks to the OP and all of the input from everyone else.
Two questions:
1. it is very cold natured at first start in the morning and after it sits a while, barely idles at 4-500 rpms. Did I miss something?
2. I still cant get rid of the CEL, i tried a resistor between the alternator field wire and battery +. I still have a code 41.
It is a 89 YJ 4.2 with 92 4.0 head and FI.
Any thought?

Ecm could be bad along with or tps or iac, just off the top of my head... I have had bad ecms do the same thing with idle and bogus code scans

I actually have a spare ecm, I'll give it a try. The iac and tps both came on the junkyard inatke, might try to find a test orocedure for them too. Otherwise, it runs sooooo much better than the weber i had on it.
Used weber anyone??
Thanks,

Idle when decel is a missing vss. The alt. Why don't you swap and use the external setup from a late model? Cold start I would look at the cts and fuel pressure to see if pressure is bleeding down.

If I were to swap in a 4.0/ax-15, couldn't I just find a computer from 91+ wrangler?

I have been reading this post for some time now and the information is overwelming and much appreciated. I have aquired a 1988 Jeep YJ, 4.2, 5 speed with 3.07 axle ratio. Has 162000 km and in pretty good shape other than some surface rust. I have changed the fluids throughout the drivetrain before doing anything else to see if the vehicle was worth rebuilding and everything is good.So far I have installed a 4 inch lift and new wheels with 33X12.5X15 YokohamaMTs,and replaced 2 worn U-joints. I am looking to do a head swap and add fuel injection . My question is, I have located a 1993 Cheeroke with 4.0, 5 speed, 200000km, that was wrote off in a rollover. What engine components from the cheeroke including wiring harness ,head, intake and exhaust manifold, distributor, will swap over to my YJ without to much trouble? Any breif step by step instructions as where to start will be very much appreciated? Also, what would be the lowest gear ratio I could go with and still keep the original axle cages? Thank-you
