ok this is an fyi for those who want to go aw4...

up untill tonight i haven't had the front driveshaft in for two reasons, still needed to hook up the air fuel gauge o2 sensor, and needed to replace the front output seal on the tcase, did both tonight and went to put the front driveshaft back in... and then once i had the driveshaft up in ready to go in, i remembered the xj has a double cardien joint on the front shaft which means the front output yokes are different and will not accomedate the yj driveshaft, quick grab off the yj 231 in the garage and i was in buisness... the front yoke nut gets torqued to 110ft lbs also...

Glad to hear that it is running! As someone had said to me when I got mine running, "hard work and determination does pay off!" "Not giving up" is the best advice that we can offer anyone who has taken on a challenging task.

Speaking of challenges...what are you guys doing with your coolant and windshield bottles? I'm finishing a 2.5L TB to MPFI swap and with the PCM under the VIN plate and the charcoal can beside it I'm having problems fitting the bottles on the driver's side fender. Not having any better luck with the air cleaner, the '93 seems to fit lower than the '90 and I can't clear the brake lines off the master cylinder. You 4.0 guys have less room than I do, what's the trick to squeezing this stuff in?

goto 1991 thru 1995 yj and pull off the tank. Then slide the tank onto your mounting bracket Next mark the holddown scrue on your bracket. Next mark the bracket were the after edge of the plastic bottle tuches. pull the bracket off your jeep drill for the holdown scrue and lop the extra you marked off.rebolt on your orignal holes and put the new bottle in the bracket. This worked for me with 4.2 MPFI upgrade.

I don't have much to add, but her is what I do have.

I relocated the charcoal canister on the fire wall to allow the placement of the coolant over flow tank. I had to remove the fender in doing so, but once I was finished there was enough room for both to fit. I believe that I have something written up on this so I will look for it and post it here (if I find it).

__________________________________________________ __________________________________________________ _____________________Edit. I found the page. Look on my link in my sig, then go to page 11. There you will see where I had to relocate my charcoal canister to make room for my PCM. Hopefully this helps.

I am not sure of the years that they went to the CV style, but on the '88 that I pulled mine from, it had the standard yoke for a U-joint. They must have changed this sometime shortly thereafter?

This thread is crazy but I love it - dude you are in the depths of Jeep land. Makes me want to do a 4.2 swap

1995 YJ "Mabel", 2.5L Muncie SM465 np231j 4.88's HP30 Lockright JK 44 Detroit 33s CJ clip

Actually, it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land."

to fix the guages, you will need the correct sensosr to match the gauges in the dash

so if you do a 4.0 swap the 4.0 sensors (water temp, and oil ) will not work... you need the 4.2 sensors...
the fuel gauge never changed from 87-95 on the ohms and the volts is controlled through the water temp...

so you should only need the oil and water sensors swapped out...

now if you retained the 4.2 block and added fuel injection... make sure your using the right sensors for you gauges and the check your wiring... if you have the correct gauge and sensor... then your wiring is off

as for the coolant/wiper/carcoal cans

i bought a new coolant bottle for 12 bucks from advanced auto and mounted it on my fender... they are in the help section and work great

the wiper bottle never moved and cleared the pcm

and the canister i got rid of... it serves no feasable purpose anyways...

ok so today im on a 24 hour duty (non sleeping post)

as soon as i get off at 7am... i have to watch the kids for about an hour, then i'm taking my son fishing... after that i will be helping a buddy do valve seals (to teach him how, without removing the head) and then i will be modifying the skid plate to better align my aw4... i will charge the camera up while i'm watching the kids and i promise i will take as many pictures as i can... so everyone can see the progress
