You need to run a power wire from the dash harness to the pump, the pump is three wire, the body harness connector is two wire

Not following you. Isn't it best to use the '93 harness and PDC to power the pump instead of trying to go through the '90 bulkhead to the body harness? The '93 harness is 3-wire with the center being gauge signal. That sender signal will go to the PCM but won't make it to my '90 gauge. The wire that actually connects to the gauge is in my body harness. Just trying to figure out the best and easiest way to match things up.

Im on my phone so its a little harder to explain... The pdc will control the pump, when you connect thw fuwl pump wire at the bulkhead it will travel through the firewall to the dash harness which then connects to the body harness... Your fuel pump wire is already there under the dash in the dash harness jump the wirw to the body harness and then connect a jumper at the fuel pump and you will have power, the sending unit wire does not go to the ecm, only to the gauge... If you need more explanation give me a call

cevans87, been watching this build for a few now, you were nice enough to post some wiring diagrams for me too.

Question. I have been torn between keeping my well running 258 with the 4.0 head and slap on FI via the 2000 intake, or build a stroker with a 4.0 engine I have.

I started going that route (4.0 stroker) till I took off the head of the 4.0, all looked ok,then I took off the water pump and water outlet and the areas of the 4.0 where the coolant goes look like crap. I removed the 258's water outlet and it looks real good.

So my thought was to take all the externals from the 4.0 and put them on the 258, including the serp belt setup. Did all that but then I read in a few posts that some folks had vibration issues when swaping a serp belt setup on an old v-belt 258.??

looking for directioin from anyone who may bne following this thread, keep going the 258 route or tear everything down and build a mostly stock stroker. This will be going in a 83 Cherokee (SJ) with mostly city driving and some trails.

hey there, new member, but was looking to install fuel injection on my 89 4.2l with the ba10/5 trans. anyhow, i dont think i have any questions about the F/I swap but was wondering if you had the part numbers for the pilot bearing that will need to be replaced also, the adapter needed to change from 21 splines to 23 spline input shaft on the transfer case. also, ive noticed that there is just a mess of what seems to be emission hoses and other vacuum hoses under the hood. some blocked off, some not hooked to anything. at any rate, they all should probably be replaced or just removed and was just wondering your take on this. thanks in advance, jesse

zorm, long time man... the 4.2 is a good motor, but in the long run it doesn't hold to a 4.0 as far as mileage...

but if the 4.2 is still good take it to a good machine shop get it acid dipped to clean all the oil journals and put all new parts in along with getting it bored and i don't think you'll ever have a problem with the motor...

hesco sells the right balancer to take care of the vibration, i don't like doing buisness with them but they are the only guys to sell it

aguaman... again the pilot bearing depends on the crank that is in the motor you will be putting in...

you can crossreference off the first page of my thread to tell you which one you need, or you can contact again hesco or advance adapters and either of them sell the one you will need...

i used the wrong one for the longest time actually up untill i did my aw4 swap and never had a problem, but a word to the wise get rid of the ba-10 tranny... complete junk... if your close i have a good ax-15 and 231 sitting in the garage

the 21 spline input shaft is easy to take out and replace. you can get a 23 spline from a 91-95 cherokee... just be careful taking them out and putting them in, alot of parts

the vaccum lines will disappear with the motor swap, with the 4.0 you will only need 4x4, brake booster, map sensor, heater box exchange, ccv, and fpr

im not too local (south florida) but i may be making a trip up to n.c. around the end of the month. i am planning on ditching the ba 10/5 it is junk, noisy in first and second gear and i dont want to wait for it to get stuck in either gear. just send me a p.m. with ur price and ill definitely consider it. ill look back up on your first page and contact advance adapters and hesco about the pilot bearing. is the 23 spline from the cherokee the same for that transfer case that is offered by advance adapters that will fit into my np231 thats in the jeep now. cuz that would be sweet.

any 23 spline will work... get one from the junkyard for a quarter of the cost

so i got to the junkyard this weekend, pulled the harness, cylinder head, intake and exhaust manifolds, fuel rail, crank sensor, and a couple other odds and ends. i feel like i got about everything but the pcm and 2 injectors. had to pull an automatic harness. and remembered your black plug white plug reference in your write up. anyhow just a couple questions. did i need to get the under dash harness as well? or just the connectors leading up to it? and also on the passenger side of the harness, there was a plug that went into the interior of the car. im guessing for hvac and i hope im right and didnt mess up by cutting those off before the plug. also, what did you do about fuel lines. did you make your own or borrow from a junkyard find? and lastly i have a 15 gallon tank(the actual 15 gallon tank) is there any way i can make a conversion to the 20 gallon?

Yes you can convert to a 20 gallon, you will need a 20 gallon poly tank and skid plate, and it will bolt right up.

The wires you were asking about were to run the automatic transmission, and you did not need the dash harness

did my rear main seal last night. didnt have quite as hard a time as you did getting the pan off, but that gasket sure was stuck on the block good. ur instructions helped a lot. thanks bud. also, ur fuel lines for your gas tank, did u make ur own or get from scrap?

I did my own little setup, took the clips off the fuel rail and ran mfi fuel hose to the rail from the lines on the frame , with a filter in the middle... I dont like it though, keep having small fuel leaks...

This weekend i will probably go get some off a cherokee and see what i can come up with

The ones for the gas tank are easy, just use mfi hose inplace of stock rubber hoses and your set

heres a pic of my bulkhead connector! gray wire blue trace on a6 ignition switch.......white and orange b4 ballast resistor........green red d5 ignition start run....... red orange e4 battery..............yellow white g5 engine start relay .............. using a 95 yj harness.. comp #56028 296 wrangler standard dist #5602 7028..... if the wires are correct where do they go? 95 fsm is not detailed just tells the colors in bulkhead bulkhead conector! going in a 90 yj ............tks

Hope this helps...

Leave the 4.2 Hanress in the vehicle, put the 4.0 harness in and lay it on top of the 4.2 harness...

connect your five wires for fire from the 4.0 harness to the 4.2 harness/bulkhead connector

and your done

I s my bulkhead correct in diagram ? using 95 yj harness which is different than the 93 yj bulkhead pinout. if i ever do this again going with a cherokee harness....
