4.2 started vs 4.0 starter?

I have noticed my starter dragging a little. I am going to be proactive and replace it . has anyone upgraded to a 4.0 starter? It looks to be a smaller high torque unit vs the clunky Ford style I currently have.

I'll be interested in what you find out, mine is making noise. it would take a little rewiring but if the bolt patern is the same it should work. might ask on the cj forum, they use the same as ours.

Do everything with a positive attitude, it won't always work but you'll piss enough people off to make it worthwhile.

the voices aren't real but they sure have good ideas.

did a little reading and it seems the answer is no, it won't work. the starter will bolt up but the gear does not extend in far enough to engage the flywheel. guess I'll be getting the old style from napa, got to get rid of this noisy piece of stuff from autozone.
