4.0 not holding ignition connection
I h ave a 1993 4.0 6-cylinder...and I have in the past few days replaced the CPS, the fuel pump and today the ingition pickup. It wants to start but won't turn over. We have determined that it gets juice when I turn the key but the minute the fuel pump kicks on I lose the connection.
I have tested all the fuses in both boxes and did find a blown fuel pump fuse, so I replaced it...wee have used a light tester so we know the connection to the coil (blue/white- wire) is not getting power...everything else has been tested, but maybe I have missed something. I can replace pretty much any part, but electrical is not my forte...so if anyone knows what I am going through, knows how to find wiring schematics, HAS wiring schematics, knows how to fix this problem or knows someone who does...PLEASE send me an email!! aquarian5@msn.com Thanks so much in advance for any help or advice you can offer! UPDATE!! Well, we may NEVER really know what the exact nature of the problem that caused my Jeep to up and die while driving home on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. We could speculate that is was the fuel pump that went, but perhaps we were wrong, It was defintitely NOT the ECM or PCU so thank goodness there! The problem was most likely the CPS which I did change out, however the guy who replaced my fuel pump inadvertantly wired it backwards causing the unit not to work properly, so the Jeep did not start even after the CPS was replaced.
Last Monday, we fixed the wiring issue on the fuel pump and the Jeep did start and it ran for quite some time as I believe I have reported already...the reason it died the third time around, was not due to anything except some wires that somehow decided to find a nice place to lay which happened to be on my exhaust pipe...and as I am sure you have figured out, the wires melted causing a short thus not allowing my Jeep to start....whew!!! So that is the ending to my Jeep saga, nothing major (except the 4hrs of labor at the mechanic) just a little bit of carelessness and $462.00 out of pocket to fix the problem....actually is was $38 dollars to FIX the problem and $388 to FIND the problem....LOL! Moral of my story...TAKE YOUR TIME!! DON't ASSUME ANYTHING AND CHECK ALL YOUR WIRING NEAR HOT SPOTS FOR SHORTS!! TIME IS MONEY... Take care y'all!! __________________

I haven't been on here in a looong time...HAHA! Well, a little update...after replacing a whole bunch of thigns on my Jeep, it still had issues with regard to starting!! Found out that it was my computer and that the 1993's had recalls on it back in the day...needless to say after searching the country for a replacement the one's that were available were all defective...so we had to send it to NJ to be totally re-conditioned!
The end result: I have my Jeep again..it is running like new..and it shold be lol, except for the fan belt, everything has been replaced...haha! Take care!
