4.0 no start

I'm looking at buying a 1992 YJ with a 4.0 that when you push in the clutch when you go to start it, it just cranks over and will not fire up, But if you don't push in the clutch just put it in neutral and crank it over and it will start right up. The man told me that he was told that when a new clutch was installed that a dowel pin was left out and the flywheel cracked an now the crank sensor is not lined up. Has anyone run into this before your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

1997 TJ 4.0, Automatic with a 4" Zone lift and BDS adjustable control arms, AA transfercase shifter relocator bracket, Real Flat fender, custom front bumper with Stinger and 8000 lb winch. custom rear bumper with swingout tire carrier, Viking soft top, 4.10 gears, SYE and Tatton DS , Goodyear Dura Trac 33x12.50-15 and still working on it.

What the guy says does not make sense. If the sensor and flywheel did not line up, then it wouldn't hardly start at all, no matter what. I'm betting it's something else. But if it seems OK otherwise, well I hope its a good deal.

Very strange, mine will start with or without the cluch pushed in. I'm going to keep an eye on this because I'm curious of the issue.

lets think about this... flywheels on a manual jeep are quite thick (the clutch rides on it) ... if it cracked then it would probably grenade itself. Personally I would pass on this thing as I wouldnt know what else the PO is trying to hide.

Weird problem but it is starting. What is he asking for it? What is the condiction and options on it? I think he is feeding a line of bs as far as the problem goes, but if the price is right that is what the forum is for, to help fix problems.

buying it

Yea I can buy it at a good price I also think that I'm getting B,S, on this also but it runs good. I also know that if a stick flywheel is cracked it will gernade but this has no vibration to it at all when it is running, so I'm going to buy it an then figure out what it is that is the problem. but if anyone has any idea as to the problem let me know. thanks

Like it has been stated that manual doesnt have anything to do with starting it. It would be easy enough to read at the asd and fuel pump relay in the PDC and see whats going on. See if the fuel pump is cycling on and if it has spark when you crank it without the clutch.

How much is he asking for it?
