4.0 Head Swap
I was sort of forced into this because of a burnt valve in my original cylinder head and while i was in there i decided to paint the motor and manifolds. This is what it turned out like:

X2 on the nice work! a couple of questions, which header did you use? 4.2 or 4.0 push rods? is the 4.2 manifold a direct bolt on? a finally, do you feel you got the extra 40 HP they claim?

I had to use some shims to get the 4.2 manifold to line up I felt a huge power increase

How long did it take you and where did you use a donor head or did you get a new one?

I have been thinking about doing that to mine lately. The paint looks awesome!!! My problem with the 4.0 head swap is I have a borla header for the 4.2 and that might make it too expensive.

Looks awesome man! Were you able to paint it like that in the jeep? Impressive results either way. I'm guessing the 4.0 valvecover is used as well? Oh, and what about studs? just re-use the stockers? or get upgrades?
*edit* I'm looking into doing this too, but like you, I will be retaining my Mc2100 carb. What do you mean by "shims" to line up the manifold? I don't see anything... also, does your motor now rev to 6k or whatever the 4.0's redline at? Thanks for any info, it's much appreciated... Last edited by themonkeyman; 09-03-2008 at 05:51 PM.. |

Got a donor head from a cherokee. Then had it redone.

I haven't tried to rev it up, I don't think the bottom end is up to it. There isn't really a need to. It revs more freely now than it did before.

if you don't mind me asking roughly how much $ do you have in this swap. I really want to do this swap I just don't know if I have the funds right now.

The only major cost is redoing the cylinder head before I put it on. You don't have to do this though. If the head you grab is in good shape, then this swap can be done very inexpensively. Grab the head and header from the donor, get a gasket kit, and install.

Nice! Couple of questions, which push rods did you use, 4.2 or 4.0? Which head bolts?
