350 swap problems, help me out

Alright, so I finally got the chevy 350 in and mounted, it was not too bad, actually used the stock t-case mount on the skid plate which worked out well, and raised my skidplate back up to the stock position and got rid of those spacers I had from the lift. Anyway Im working on hooking all the fun crap up....

How the hell do you attach the hard plastic clutch line to the slave cylinder, the slave cylinder I have just has a brass nipple, and I cant get the hose on it, I tried warming it up and it did not work, and now the hose is just barly long enough haha. also, how do I go about bleeding the clutch system?

How do I hook up the power steering? I've heard take it to a hydraulic shop, but how much will that cost me?

anybody have any idea how I can figure out where all the little hoses and such that come from the intake manifold (TBI set up, I would like to keep a lot of the emissions stuff if possible, but I dont know where any of the hoses should go, like from the PCV valve or anything)

my t-case is moved up a few inches from the stock position now, so How difficult is it to shorten the front driveshaft? I assume I can cut it in half, cut out 2 inches, use 2 peices of angle iron to line it back up straight, and weld it back together, and since it doesnt have to be balanced it should be alright, right?
and how can i figure out how much to shorten it.

Never messed with one of those hydro clutches so I'm not sure what to tell ya about that.. You might have to either have custom hoses made or maybe use Jeep or Chevy hoses and do some tweaking... or contact PSC and ask about their line kits. They come with fittings and hose that you cut yourself and assemble. That might be a little pricey but they're nice lines. As for the vacuum lines. I'd get the service manual for the year of the engine and look at the vacuum diagram to see where all that stuff goes. To shorten the front shaft, grind the weld at the long tube's yoke end. The tube is only about .120" wall stock so grind the weld carefully. When you see a hairline crack all the way around, you can whack the yoke off with a hammer. It's a slight press fit in the tube. Then, cut down to length, replace the yoke in the tube. Make sure the yoke is in phase with the other yoke end... and weld it in place.. pretty simple. I've done a few without problems but those are only trail rigs that never see the high side of about 40-45 mph.

Check with your local auto parts stores. When I lived in Sault st Marie, Mich the Auto Value there had a machine and they would make any hyd. hose you wanted, very inexpensive, they charged by the foot for the hose and could put any ends on it you wanted. You might also want to check out a farm tractor shop.

cool, sounds good, i know a mennonite guy who does a lot of tractor repairs, so he may be able to do the power steering, ill see. I'm going to try and shorten the front driveshaft today I think, sounds simple enough, but how do I know excactly how much shorter to make it, like how much should the slip yoke be exposed at level ride height? thanks

I used the stock chevy PS box and I have one stock jeep PS hose and one is a stock Chevy part... but i cannot remember which is which.

I used the stock power steering pump with a shorted stock hose.

I used a stock Jeep pump and hose for my 87 SBC conversion. If I remember fight I did the same thing a number of years ago when I put a SBC in a 93 YJ I used to have. You should get FSMs for the wiring and vacuum hoses.

ran into a bit of an ordeal today, I put the shifter into the SM 465, and, it wont move, just side to side as if it is in neautral, I cant shift gears, but I can push the jeep, as if it is in gear, what is going on here?

ok, I got the ford 8.8 fully installed, welded in and all, just have to work on the e-brake cables and bleed the brake line and I'm golden. Ordering the driveshaft tomarrow now that I can measure for it. I worked on the front driveshaft a little, I got the yoke out of the one side, and cut the driveshaft down, but I am having a hard time getting the yoke back into the driveshaft tube. still need to figure something out with the clutch, and can somebody please tell me why my shifter in my SM 465 acts like it is in neutral, and I cant shift it into any gears, and when I push the jeep, it acts like it is in gear. do you think the shifter forks got messed up when I was moving them around trying the get the shifter in? I can't figure it out. Ill get some pics up later this week. thanks

Chances are all the shift rods are not lined up. Pull the shifter and look down through the top of the tranny they should all line up and be centered. on is probably out of line use a large screwdriver to line it back up. then reinsert the shifter.

yeah, thats what I was thinking, i just was not sure what position the shift rods are suppose to be in in neautral. the only problem now is the shifter hole is practically under the dash, and nearly impossible to stick my head under to see inside, or get a big screw driver into. guess ill have to use some mirrors or something, maybe lower the trans a bit. thanks

They should all be centered. The rail on the right is your 1st and 2nd. rail in the middle is 3rd and fourth. rail on the left is reverse and will only move to center and one other position. chances are the tranny was in gear when it was pulled out. That why the instructions say put it in neutral. BTW I did it too when I put my T-18 in.

If you cant use a screw driver you can always see which rail is off and try to get the shifter to slide into that slot. then all will be fine. but it is easier said then done.

anybody have any ideas about the hydraulic clutch line? this plastic hard line is a pain and I am seriously about to buy some brake line and use that for my hydraulic clutch. think I could get braided steel with right fittings?
