2.5L Cam/Lifter Job
Who here has replaced the camshaft and lifters in a 2.5L? How hard is it, how long might it take, special tools etc. I have the understanding that it's a fairly simple job in which I won't need to pull the head or anything major like that. If any one has done it, please share your experience

u need a lifter puller as you would expect ... its just a long wand with a expanding fort at the end that you use to lock into the lifter. other than that the timing cover has to come off, which means the belts and crank pulley are coming off so a good 2 or 3 jaw puller is needed along with new timing cover seals and valve cover seal. oh be sure to put some assembly lube on the crank pulley seal so it does not glaze at start up and start leaking all over.
make sure to use plenty of assembly lube and instert the camshaft without damaging the very delicate bearing surfaces. easier said that done but if you take your time it will be fine. make sure to have a good manual on hand in case you need to realign the distributor from things moving around. and since you are removing the timing chain and gear things will move around. radiator has to come out to be able to pull the cam out. other than that i would just give myself a full day as to not rush anythign and mess it up. its a relaxing project that way... |
