Very well stated. Our angry squirrels are pushing 33's as well. When we went up to 33's she was sluggish at first, but once we relearned how to drive w/ the bigger tires, we were able to get most of the power back through changes in shift points and using the motor to our advantage. Unless the 6 gave me 100hp more, there's no way I'd change.

Pardon the stupidity and potential hijack, but how can I tell if I have TBI or MPI? It's not listed on my build sheet. Is there an easy way to tell looking under the hood?

If you have something that resembles a carb then you have TBI. MPI then you'll have a fuel "pipe" or rail running along the side of the motor.

my 4banger makes me happy. there hasnt been an obstacle yet except only a mudhole that i havent had a victory over. this mudhole is also about 5 feet deep and i just dont want to have a boatload of mud in my rig. but anyways, after a while i will be doing a swap either between the 4bt, 4.3 chevy, or a 350 bored all out. i just havent decided upon, i think the 4bt its a bad@ss 4banger

I love my 4 squirrels, theyve got an intake, header, high-flow cat, and exhaust backing them up as well so they sound extra angry.
It turns my 32's without a problem and I still have all of 5th gear.

Only swap i would think about is a mustang 5.0L 302 or a vette engine. But that would only be if I found one i could take off someones hands

For now the squirrels are here to stay!

my plans are to keep my 2.4L
i have no intentions of doing any serious body weight gains...
huge bumpers cargo racks coolers.

my intentions are to get my trail ready weight lower then it is currently right now.
the lighter the weight the more finesse you can have on the rocks. i can't stand mud too much money has been spent on repairing silly sh*t that mud mucks up.

i have a basic stock SE right now that i will be locking the axles, throwing in some tall gears, full roll cage.
everthing else i do will be towards the weight savings side of the house.

i have swamped this motor twice to the point it actually stalled out and i had to be towed in gear clutch out to get the water out for the motor to fire again. there was another time i had to open that air box to get all the water out. still this motor is running fine, there is a tick of course. but what can i expect i have had drowned thrice pretty much.

it now has 70K on the odometer, it has been on the Autobahn, The Colorado rockies, The Wasatch Mountain Range (Utah), The Plateaus of New Mexico, The Red mud of North Carolina (uwharrie), and now the flat lands of lower alabama and beaches of Florida. i have pretty much driven this motor in every type of situation and still love it.

have had an '01 2.5 for 3 years now, had 33"s on it for the last year. i've drowned it twice and had to get pulled in gear to push the water out both times. with the 31"s on it i had no issues on the freeway. i couldn't pass cars in 5th, but it held it just fine. since i put the 33s on i've almost lost 5th, but with a new set of gears i'm sure i'll be right back. DD as well as all the rocks and trails i've found. would only swap if i stumbled on dirt cheap v8 w/ tranny and had the time on my hands. only had the 4 cylinder, but couldn't imagine driving anything else. durable and reliable. what more do i need

Hello all, I am new to this forum and this is my first post! I just got my '91 YJ and it has the 2.5.
Having to do some much needed maint to it before going offroad with it. So far it seems like an alright engine. Would be nice to have the 6 though, but this was a pretty good deal I think.

I just got my first Jeep last month and it's got the 2.5L. It is a little underpowered but then again, I'm not racing in it either. I used to have a '75 International Scout II, now that was a BEAST!!

I don't mind my 2.5L. Of course I would love more power but that's how I am.... No matter what motor I have I would still want more power. My 4 does what I need it to do just fine.... To the point I just finished rebuilding it. Now it is bored 60 over so I gained a couple cubic inches If I want to go fast I have a totally different vehicle for that.

My 95 2.5 is pushing 235,000 miles and running 32's. It is a little week and 5th gear gets a break every time it gets driven. Trying to decide to change engines or just regear with 4.88's. I wish I had lots of money to put in my sponge.
