1995 YJ Wiper Issues

Hello, I have a 1995 Wrangler YJ , recent purchase (with new wiper motor says past owner). Wipers stop working the other day. I dropped it off at a friends shop, he said he thinks its the motor but I need to do it since the top has to come off. He also said they are working, I was like what? but sure enough they did work when I got in it.

I was messing with it today , key on, wipers running and checking to see if the would stop and they did. I jiggled the harness under they dash and no change, I also checked the ground on the motor and it was tight and no change when I tried to move it. When they stop the washer motor does not pump.

I went to turn on the turn signal and they started again...
I am guessing the switch in the column is bad ?

Thank you for any input !

Sounds like the switch in the colum is bad. Mine does that too. Cheap part, but takes a bit of time and patients to fix. You will need to pull the steering wheel off to replace. I think i bought my new turn signal switch for about 30 bucks from morris. its a mopar one.

My washer switch is intermittent.
It won't act up often enough to find the fault.
Let me know what you find.

Can anyone confirm :
1. A bad motor does not affect the washer pump working?
2.When I switch goes you will loose everything? I now have nothing but turn signals etc..

Thank you!

YJ wiper issue

Late reply but thought this may help others.
For my 93 YJ, it has had a tendency to over rotate the wiper arms and not be able to return back across the windshield. The problem with mine was that the pivots (both sides) have got a broken limiter or stop. You can Fab. a small sheet metal piece to repair it or try and replace the pivots. At this time Mopar does not build it any longer but I have found some still in captivity at some dealers. 3 to be exact. The salvage yards are of no help on this as well. The P/N is: 55154891.

Not sure. I have rectified the wiper problem so I cannot tell you for sure.

Do you have any idea why both would fail at the same time and then start working again at the same time?

I am thinking switch or relay.
Thank you
