1995 wrangler flooding out with gas RUNS and BACKFIRES at idle quits 1 min of running
1995 wrangler floods out with gas. Runs semi smooth then starts to POP POP BACKFIRE then it dies out. pulled plugs and all but two were soak with gas. what would cause this? it has a new ECU fuel-pump plugs cap rotor. crank position sensor. checked compression has 150PSI first three cyl then 160 4th cyl. FUEL PSI 35 idle. REMOVE vacuum line @ regulator and jumps to 40PSI. I think that checks out ok. SPARK is yellow / white. Is that weak? I though the coil may need to be replaced? Resistance checked out on the coil. what else could cause it to flood? could the timing be off and still have compression?
at a guess... sounds like your injectors are leaking/plugged and are dribbling gas in instead of spraying in like it should.

ok. update!!! ECU is bad and not working right. runs but skips and backfires. I TRY THE UNIT IN SOMEONES JEEP AND SAME SYMPTOMS! i bought the new one from www.autocomputerexchange.net. hopefully the alternator burned it out from bad brushes. i noticed the radio don;t turn on and the gas gage isn;t working. is that controlled by the ECM?
Fuel gauge is independent. Set the timing. Then clear the ecu by disconnecting the battery and recheck codes.

1995 wrangler non running need help
i bought this 1995 YJ non running. It won,t run and pops and backfires like the timing is off. we set the new timing chain according to the book: line the two dots side by side, rotate and count 20 links on the chain dot to dot. i have compression, 150psi cyl 1-2-3- and 4 160psi. we set the distributor on the cyl 1 compression stroke, and set the harmonic balancer to the (0). still is isn't running. with the engine at TDC (0), the cam dot is 360 off, is that right? Do you guys have a picture of the distributor installed with the rotor position as the engine is at top dead center? it appears to me the camshaft could be broke, because at top dead center the cam dot is 360 degrees away from the crank dot.
