That's odd. The AX15 actually has a slightly taller gear ratio than the AX5.

Is your E-brake on?

DId you put fluid in the tranny this time? (I think you said earlier that you were not during the tests)

Yup, fluids are in, everything is in running condition.

everything seems to be working normally, it drives fine in 4-hi and 2-hi, shifts to neutral (T-case). Its when I go to 4-lo that it seems to have a really low gear ratio.

Sounds fairly normal to me really.

But, I can get up to at least 1.5mph in 1st/4L

Put some miles on that thing this weekend and tell us how it works out for you. I'm very curious.

Hey Ultimate, what pilot bushing did you end up using in the end?

Also, was it really neccessary to grind down the clutch for it to work properly or was that the result of you troubleshooting another problem?

I ended up using the pilot bushing from Advanced Adapters for the NV-4500 / AMC 2.5L package. Soaked it overnight in 10w30 motor oil and it's worked perfectly since I finished the conversion last fall.

(P/N 716167) Pilot Bushing .750 ID X 1.090 OD | Engine & Transmission Conversion Adapters - Advance Adapters

I am not sure whether or not I needed to shave down the clutch disk. I wish I knew. It ended up being a faulty new pressure plate which was not releasing the clutch disk.

Awesome info man. I think I may go with a LUK clutch disc and pressure plate with the AA pilot bushing. I already have a new National throwout bearing in my YJ now and I already have an external slave set-up so not much to change there.

As soon as I find a good supplier for the clutch disc and pressure plate I'll be throwing the AX15 under the YJ!

Finally, something for my 4 Angry Squirrels to channel their Angry Power through!

It doesn't feel like the 231 or the 242's I've had in my other jeeps at all.
I know it's been a while, but I was wondering if you've figured it out? Do you think it could have something to do with not having a front drive-shaft and the NP231 being a part-time transfer case, thus losing half the power that's supposed to be going to the front?

Its a standard 2.72:1 ratio case ... not sure why I would've thought it to be a 4:1 ratio. It doesn't have anything to do with the driveshafts since they are locked together in the transfercase.

Is it worth it to swap out the input shaft, or find a 94+ AX15? I'm extremely tight on cash until my school money comes in...
I know you...

Did you end up using a LUC clutch? If so, what was the part number and where did you order it from? I'm getting ready to do this swap in my TJ.
