1993YJ 5speed

What trans do I have in my 1993 YJ I6 5 speed? I guess my sync's are going out in 1st-2nd. I cant get it in 2nd gear most of the time. I have 175,000 miles on her so I cant complain. While I doing it (Trans Shop will do the rebuild) I any going to replace the Clutch and Slave cylinder. Anything else I should look for? What should the rebuilt cost if I remove and reinstall the tranny.

You've got an AX15 and yes I'd definitely go ahead and replace the clutch since you're already in there. I wouldn't spend more than 300 or 400 on labor. There not really that hard to rebuild

Should look into making the slave cylinder external. There's some write ups around here.

There are people running small Chevy's behind AX-15s. The AX-5 barely will hold the massive power of a 2.5.

How do I tell the difference between the AX5 and AX15 did it change with year models? I'm a noob. If I start looking for another in the future I will need to know what to look for it in.

If you can do the removal yourself & the clutch install, I would recommend getting a FSM (Factory Service Manual) and rebuild it yourself. It's an easy rebuild, IMO.

Dead-on accurate!

You'll need a "front bearing retainer plate", a bellhousing complete with the clutch fork & fork pivot ball, a throwout bearing and a prebled master cylinder/hose/external slave cylinder kit. Your existing hydraulic hose won't work & the whole hydraulic kit is just over $120 usually.

No need to, the AX-5 was never used behind a 6 cylinder YJ engine.
