1988 YJ possible purchase

Hello all,
I am looking at purchasing a 88YJ, in the past I owned a 76 CJ-7 that had quadrtrac that did not work well and I am hoping to avoid a similar mistake with the YJ. Any tips on things to look for, good or bad? It has the straight 6 and a 5 speed with air! but just a soft top which will not be good in Iowa. Any response is appreciated.
