1988 Battery Gauge problem

I just bought an 88 jeep and the battery gauge was working fine. It is a voltage gauge not an amp meter. Use to read right at 13 volts with the switch on. 14 when driving down the highway. All of a sudden it stopped (dropped to zero). I get 12.77 volts on the battery with a voltage meter and when I drove it for about 30 mins, I still get 12.77 volts. I think the Alternator is still charging because the voltage gauge should read what is on the battery and not zero. I have checked all fuses and they are good. Where should I start troubleshooting now?

I would think checking the connections at the back of the gauge would be a good place to start....see if the gauge is out to lunch....

The foil contacts on the back of the gauges get corroded. Pull the dash panel out and remove the nuts that hold the gauge to the foil and cluster. Clean up the contacts on all the gauges and put it back together. Mine did the same thing and it works great since cleaning it.

Well they work again, wonder how long they will last before having to clean them again. Thanks for the help.

Mine have been fine for over a year now. I did put some dielectric grease on the contacts before I put everything back together though.
