19 gallon gas tank install help

Punctured my gas tank on my 93 yj 2.5L. bought a used 19 gallon gas tank from ebay for the same yr and size engine wrangler.

My issue is i can not for the life of me get the skid plate to bolt up. Did I buy a gas tank to big for my skid plate or am I doing something wrong.

THank You

Did you do a dry fit?
1. Empty tank in hole?
2. Empty tank lying in skid plate with hoops tied down?

If 1 and 2 are OK, then realize it's a ***** to get back in. I did it with the body off, and it was difficult enough. Check the stickies, there's a installation guide for the fuel tank.

Do both the old tank and the new one look the same physically? The tank should mount to the skid plate first and then the hole assembly will mount up into the frame. I put my tank in using a floor jack to lift it in place that helps quite a bit even if you have an extra set of hands.

Yeah, you're gonna want to drop the entire assembly then attach the tank to the skid with the straps etc. they lift the entire thing up.
