OK- so I found a super cheep AX-15 with low miles, but I've been hunting through write ups and most are for the 4.0 hooked to an AX-15.. My question is, can someone point me to a write up for hooking an AX-15 to a 4.2 or at least give me a list of parts so I can see if I can afford to do the swap. The puke-o needs to go.

im not super knowledgable on the subject but the ax 15 came stock behind the 4.2 so id imagine you would just have to find the right bell housing from a late 89 90 yj
some one feel free to shoot me down if im wrong

OK- so I'm about to feel like the biggest nOOb ever with this question.. but How the **** do I know which tranny I have in my jeep? I ran the vin through the decoder and it just says where it was made (Brampton Plant (Bramalea, Ontario)) but nothing about the drivetrain other than the fact that it came with a 4.2
anywho- I know I know, I'm a noob, but I still wanna know before I go blowing money on an AX-15 when I allready have one!

If you have your build date it is easy. The BA-10 was used untill March 9,1989 then on the 10th, they switched the plant to the AX-15. The other way to tell is that the BA-10 can be split/unbolted right down the middle on the top and bottom and the AX-15 is a solid housing.

can I just suggest swapping and not dumping anymore money into the suck hole known as the turdyfive in the rear of your heep. it is a let down waiting to happen. just my opinion of course. (P.S. I love my 8.8)

if you can't tell if you have one or not yours is obviously working fine so just buy the swap parts and keep it stored for that day when you start losing gears, synchros, and your mind lol

So I do have a puke-o.... ****ty.. Oh well, I'm going to redo the clutch for now and after I move to tn hopefully I can track down another AX-15 and swap that into it.
*edit* just found a pretty large exhaust manifold leak... any ideas on how to slow it down until I can afford a new headers?

OK- due to lack of funds new game plan for the heep.
1- Try and get the current drive train to last about another year..
2- 4in RE SUA lift
3- BFG MT 33x12.5s/regear to 4.88
4- 1in body lift
5-continue to do battle with rust monster until I can afford a new tub.
Long term goals- diesel motor, SOA, and basically turn it into an offroad only trail rig.

OK- spent some cash today lol
ON ORDER- should be here this weekend with pics to follow-
Skyjacker 4in lift with shackle kit, pitmin arm, and extended brakelines. http://www.quadratec.com/products/16017_102.htm
Set of 5 MB 72 wheels http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...4.3&vid=006146
Set of 5 33x12.5 15 BFG AT TA's. (i know, but the MT's were like $50 more each)
In the meantime I'm going to try and get the bulk of the body work finished and hopefully get the soft top back on.
BTW- my hard top is for sale. Paid 150 for it, willing to sell it for 150. I don't have anywhere to store it, otherwise I'd hang onto it. Pics of the hardtop in here-http://jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=467199

Well, swapped out the busted *** seats I had in my heep for a 60/40 split bench seat out of a 1994 Ford Ranger. Lost my slide feature, but otherwise turned out great. I just need to figure out how to move them forward about 2 inches and I'd be good to go. I can drive it as is, but I have to stretch to depress the clutch all the way. ride hight is perfect!
PICS!
