1/4 Tank = Stall Out On Sharp Left Turns
Whenever my gas gauge reads at or below quarter of a tank remaining, anytime I take a sharp left turn, it either sputters or even sometimes completely stalls. I'm assuming maybe fuel pump?

Guages in Jeeps don't always read perfectly. Mine is OUT of gas right as it hits the last part of the guage where it turns to red, and I owned one that would be out at 1\4 tank I ran 1\2 a can of Sea foam through my tank and it worked perfectly again
I never really understood how that fixed it but I was just happy it worked. I also had a problem with my last wrangler stalling when it got low on gas until I replaced my fuel filter, so if I were you I'd start with a new fuel filter. Also watch your milage and see if by the time you hit a quarter tank if it should be empty. My guess would be its the filter, then the fuel guage, and I really doubt its your pump but if you doubt it just hook a pressure guage up to it and find out. |

Few questions:
1. For that sea foam stuff, is that a gas additive or some sorta spray into the tb? 2. I'm planning on buying a "tune up kit" for my 2.5 .. goes for like 40 bucks and has wires, plugs, fuel filter, etc so I"ll start with that and see if that helps any (can't hurt). 3. What is the size of an 89 2.5 gas tank anyways?

inside your tank your pump sits inside a little plastic trough. this helps to minimize gas running away from your pump at low levels and under turning. had trouble with mine and this plastic part was messed up. your pump might also not be sitting all the way on the bottom of the tank. couple of things to look for.

I just worked on an 89 with the same problem. As fratis said, it was the plastic baffle in the tank that was distorted and useless. In the case of this Jeep, it was in a left turn, just as you say.

i ahve that problem but it has to be under 18th of a tank, but with my spool in the rear and now sway bar or trac bars i have MAJOR body roll when making tight turns (yes even very slow) if i put any speed to the turn it kills the engine.

The tank is a 20gal. but has an extended vent tube so that it only holds around 15 gals. Depending on how the Jeep is sitting (tilted or flat/level) you'll get more or less that 15 with the auto shut off on the pumps.
Mine actually starts sputtering on turns and then is empty at around 1/4-1/8 on the gauge. I bet yours is the same and you're running low.

went to the doctor and said, "doctor it hurts when i do this" he says, "well... dont do that."
not to be an *** but it looks like the simplest and cheapest fix is to simply keep more fuel in the tank. |

When I fill up, I fill up completely. When the 1/4th sputter problem begins, I refuel. In terms of this plastic thing, is there a replacement part or would you need a new fuel tank? Its not that big of deal, basically I fill up with a quarter tank left and considering this is my project car / 4th car in the driveway, currently I go through 3/4 of gas maybe once every 3-4 weeks.... hopefully once I fix her up I'll be using her more

good question. ive never seen the item advertised by itself. since its not your sole mode of transpo id drop the tank and actually see. it might simply have broken away and be sitting in the tank but otherwise be fine.

the hardest part are the stupid fill lines. you have to disconnect them and push them out of the way before you can lower the tank. other than that is pretty quick.
