86'-92' XJ V.S. MJ:

XJ;
86 - 107,225
87 - 139,295
88 - 187,136
89 - 207,216
90 - 151,230
91 - 151,578
92 - 137,826

MJ;
1986 23,251
1987 12,884
1988 16,062
1989 10,375
1990 5,412
1991 5,188
1992 3,142

now from start of product to end of production the XJ way out numbered the MJ i used the 86-92 as its the while production run of the MJ showing the SUV to Truck ratio for Jeep.

I think Jeep might be a bit reluctant to do a truck based on the XJ to MJ ratio . ..

While those numbers don't bode well for Jeep to build a pickup, there is a big difference in the market between then and now. There were plenty of small pickups to choose from then, plus with Jeep refusing to build an extra cab version of the MJ, they really limited the appeal. Everyone else offered ex-cabs.

If Jeep builds it, I think the market is now ready and I for one would buy one. If they don't then no Jeep for me. I need/want a small pickup and the only real option is a Tacoma, but while I have given them much thought (including taking one home overnight), it just doesn't do it for me. A JK pickup would fit my needs better than any other vehicle available in the US currently.

Jeep really needs to build this.

On Tuesday, Jeep CEO Mike Manley reportedly showed dealers a pickup truck thatís said to closely resemble the well-received Jeep Gladiator concept from 2005.

Industry sources have told us that production of the Jeep pickup is expected to start in the third quarter of 2011, with the pickup badged as a 2012 model. Itís said to be based on the four-door Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited platform but with a two-door regular cab configuration with extra space behind the front seats for storage.
Looks like this truck is going to also be a Regular cabbed truck, Which don't bother me cause that is the configuration for me.

I LOVE 2DR pickup's & HATE 4DR pickups myself but the other 99.5% of the planet like 4dr and extended cab'd truck's . . . So i see it being Axed or a very limited short run . . .

AMC also sold their Jeep's internationally, watch IRT deadliest road's you'll see many JC-10's kicking about that is in India . . .

AM-General also sell's internationally, tons of AM715-AM720's and Variants well into the mid to late 80's for model years . . . AM-G is still an international brand very much alive and well too

I though Chrysler was still exporting Jeeps ? ? apparently not, well then this will boost sales of Jeep truck's

shorten the sides of the bed. It looks too much like the h3t, and in my opinion that's just an ugly truck.

Hell yea! 2 door regular cab is the bodystyle Id want! But Id like to see a 4 door crew cab SUT version too. Just tack on a little overhang to the current 4 door Wrangler (yes I know overhang is the devil), and do an abbreviated top then there ya go. Shrunken H1.

I didn't mind the of the H3T concept 2dr truck, but it seems they only produced the 4dr H3T's ? ? ?

Seem's like the discontinuation of the Hummer brand opened the door for Jeep to Make the next best lil'Truck

XJ's and MJ's were produced on the same line. To build an MJ, XJ production had to be completely halted. At the time, demand for XJ's outpaced production. Jeep was making a killing by producing as many XJ's as they could. There was simply no incentive for them to stop making XJ's to make MJ's which never sold well, were never marketed heavily, and didn't make them the profit margin that the XJ did.

So just comparing production numbers is only painting half the picture. There's a very good reason XJ production swamped MJ production.
