Wrangler 2.8L Diesel NOT happening?

The AllPar story on the new Wrangler diesel, discussed in this forum in this thread has been revised.

The last paragraph now reads the following:

Quote:
We have now received two credible statements that the American (and presumably Canadian) Wrangler will not be diesel-powered for the foreseeable future, and that the announcement of a diesel Wrangler in the U.S. was misinterpreted.
As a buyer waiting for an Unlimited Rubicon Diesel I give this a big .

I guess we'll just have to wait and see until the 2011 model year is announced. Does anyone know when that is...June ish?

If I were one to believe in conspiracies I'd almost believe the government (EPA) is doing something underhanded to keep light duty diesels from coming out.

This is what happens when the government gets to decide what technologies we are allowed to promote and not promote instead of free competition.

this is what happens when companies can spend enough to influence the way we live.

Lol as if a company would pass on a chance to make more money. If there's no diesel its because somebody doesn't think it will sell...

Jeep may have government influence but as mentioned there's no LD powerstroke.....

I was planning to buy a new diesel wrangler over a new 5.0 mustang when I get out of college.

Looks like I'll be getting my first 'car':

This statement is nonsensical. Companies make what will make them money, unless overzealous government regulation prevents them from doing so. Case and Point being the strict regs over small diesels which make them to expensive to bring here for many automakers. Mean while the government subsidizes gasoline hybrids and electrics which may be a good fit for certain drivers, but not so for many others. Let consumer purchasing power decide not bureaucrats and lobbyists.

You might be right. Somebody in our 'system' does not like diesel and I'm at a loss as to why. But whatever the reason, it's not like this is the first time it has happened. Look at the Tucker car. Personally, I think that car was superior to anything being made at the time. And at the risk of starting a flame war, look at the current Health Bill. Is there any logical reason that we can not import prescription drugs from Canada? Are there a lot of Canadians dying from bad prescriptions drugs?

It all comes down to the Golden Rule....He who has the gold makes the rules
