What's the latest on the "Lower Forty?"

Does Jeep have any intention of bringing it to market? Any guesses as to MSRP? When it's coming? Considering selling my KK to grab a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon (with the Pentastar engine), but am thinking I would rather get this if it's available mid next year when the 2012 Rubicon will be out. Seems like the Lower Forty has quite a bit more off-road capability than the Rubicon.

Lower Fourty is never coming to production, it's a show car and nothing else.

It's what the Mopar Underground team has said from day one, same with every other concept they've ever made.

And take a look at that thing-yeah, it's badass, but there is absolutely no viable market case for mass production.

Why would Mopar make it then if they never ever go to production with one of their concepts? Isn't that the point of making concepts -- to take at least most of them to market?

Find it hard to believe there would be no viable market. Both myself, my brother, and my dad would all be interested in getting one and I've only sent those two people a link to it. I'd say 3/3 is pretty good. Pretty sure its market would be Rubicon buyers and the Rubicon sells very well, doesn't it? Isn't the Lower Forty pretty much a Rubicon on steroids?

Sure, Off-road enthusiast would love to have this vehicle. But they are the minority. Do you really think the majority, who have never hit dirt their whole life, would want to buy such a vehicle for their daily driver?

As you can currently see, Jeep is now going toward a new direction. They are trying to attract the majority's attention. And if they want to survive, they'll continue this new route.

Look at all the concepts that car makers build each year. Every big company will grunt out a half-dozen concepts each year. Some are looks at what future vehicles are, but most are just to drum up PR and let the public know that they're still around. The latter is what Mopar Underground does in this department.

And I'm not saying that aspects of the Lower Fourty or other MU and Jeep concepts vehicles are out. There are plenty of MU vehicles that have influenced future concepts. The JK's front end was lifted right from the Gladiator, the JK Unlimited shares a lot with the Dakar and Rescue concepts, the Grand Cherokee WL looks a hell a lot like the Trailhawk and so forth.

The problem is that, while you three might all want a Lower Fourty, I'd bet that you, and this forum in general, don't represent an accurate cross-section of the buying public. A production Lower Fourty would be heinously impractical to 99% of the buying public. The extra tooling would cost millions to produce. It's just not a vehicle that would sell in a large enough volume to produce, especially when Chrysler is so strapped for cash in general.

I would have purchased it on the spot at Moad EJS. They will not produce it due to OSHA, EPA, And every other government agency that tends to get involved. It has no hard top and a lot of the other safety needs to be approved for mass production in order to survive all the legal attacks by lawyers that drool over adventure vehicles. I heard there is one company that makes an imitation, but I have not found out who they are yet. Also, if everyone had one, that would become the base line and we all would want the next greatest concept. Concept cars are only for show. Mass produced are for the dough.... Yes, I still want one right now. It is awesome....
