Pull trigger on '09 Liberty Rocky Mountain/'10 Liberty Renegade or wait for 2012?

Should I pick up an '09 Liberty Rocky Mountain Edition/'10 Liberty Renegade or wait for the new 3rd generation liberty coming out in 2012? I never buy new and don't trust the first model year so I would be looking at a 2013 model year purchased in 2014 (used). What do you guys think? Hold out for the 3rd generation liberty or pick up the best version of the current KK?

Well that all depends...theres talk of the Liberty replacement being a car based CUV...so in that case, Id say no way. I think the current model has the best bodystyle, and I believe you can even get the 4.0 v-6 now. On the other had, the first gen did offer a manual and the diesel version would be a nice find...

Do you have any more info on the 4.0 6L? I haven't heard about that.

Its the same 4.0 V6 that comes in the grand caravan, Nitro R/T and I think something else may be using it. Its got like 260 hp or something...pretty close to the numbers of the 4.7 V-8

I'm familiar with the engine I just don't see it as an option for the 2011 Liberties. Will it be available in 2012 or something?

Hmmm....I read somewhere that they had opened it up to the Liberty too...its been an upgrade for the Nitro the whole time. I just googled it and apparently I was wrong on that one.

The Lib 2010 and 2011 comes only with the 3.7 v-6 for the U.S. only. It is pretty reliable engine, it's basically a 4.7 minus 2 pistons. AllPar.com has a nice write about it. Canada and overseas the Lib is called the Cherokee and 2.8 Diesel is available for it.

Jeep is talking about a redesign for the Lib for with 2013 or 2014. There is just a lot of speculating right now.

The Liberty is sold as such in Canada, it's only called the Cherokee in Europe.

The new Liberty will be a CUV, and is speculated to be moving upmarket somewhat. Think more along the lines of a Range Rover than the current offering.

So, if you like the current Liberty, buy one now. If you'd like something more like a Range Rover, wait until 2012.
