Wouldn't this push it towards the Patriot/Compass category? Seems like it's in a nice niche right now, between the compact and full-size units. But I guess it's gettin' hard to sell gas-guzzling SUV's nowadays, and that likely will be become even moreso in the near future.

Does anybody know how the new Grand Cherokee is selling? Just curious mostly. We have a Commander that we really like, but Jeep couldn't give those things away towards the end of it's life cycle. Hoping the GC is selling well for Jeep's sake.

The new GC seems to be all over the road. As soon as those came out they started selling like hotcakes since its one of the few 'real' suvs you can buy anymore.

Fights for first place among Jeep with the Wrangler, but both are selling in the 150,000/year range. Best-selling vehicles Chrysler has after the minivans and Ram trucks.

Jeep Liberty with a Turbo?

This what Motor Trend suspects based on a premium fuel only sticker above the gas tank.

http://wot.motortrend.com/spotted-20...ne-191307.html

I don't think it is a surprise to anyone given that the new liberty/cherokee is going to share the platform with the Dodge Dart and other Alfa's. I guess I don't mind the option of having a 4 cylinder that is turbo charged as a fuel efficient alternative as long as the Pentastar remains an option. Although it does make me concerned they would add a premium fuel only engine that isn't the top tier performer.

If this new Liberty / Cherokee resembles this mule, I am sure glad I purchased my Lib when I did. It looks like here Jeep used 1/2 the metal and twice the plastic lol.

As far as engines are concerned I wouldn't want a 290HP 260 Ftlb of torque engine but rather those number reversed 260hp / 290ftlbs with maximum torque @ 1800-2200 rpm.

If Jeep intends on using a turbo 4 cyl or 6 cyl using premium only, it would have to produce some really good mpg numbers. An average consumer will either back off any vehicle that uses premium or just put regular in it.
What about Diesel? If it was up to me I would looking at Cummins, Mercedes, Volkswagon - Audi.

5-7 spd trans is better than a 4, but 8-9 I think is ridiculous.

That mule looks nothing like what the next Liberty will look like. It's merely a platform mule, an Alfa body hacked up and put on top just so there's something there.

They've been using those hacked up Alfa bodies on all of their test mules, so I think it is too soon to think that is what the new Lib is going to look like.

ETA: Darn, beaten by 3 minutes! :-)

Understood, has there been any updated photos on the new Liberty or still top secret like the North Koreans launching rockets LOL!

Our new eye-talian overlords appear to be pretty good at keeping secrets.

I think its a good idea, something smallish, with a good base 4 and optional 3.2 pentastar, bascially replaces the patriot and liberty in one shot, while still allowing for the rumored micro 4x4 (panda clone?)

If Jeep produces a 4cyl Turbo, I hope it's like my wife's 2.0L 2011 Kia Optima SX T-GDI. 274hp @ 6k and 270 ft. lb @ 1750-4000 using regular unleaded. No premium needed. This engine moves the 3400lb SX very nicely. Oh, and 22/34 for gas mileage is pretty nice too.
