New Jeep Phoenix??

When will this be a production?

I currently DD a Geo Tracker while my XJ is under the knife and the TJ is too rough to DD and is waiting for a new rear end and gears. Its kind of like driving a little go cart. 4x4, 4cyl, and a 5 speed and its fun. I actually plan to stick with it instead of a temp car as I was planning on while I fix my TJ.

Anyways long story short its a 1996, so its old and cheap. Its got some stuff going on with it I dont like. I gotta say 99% of people on this site would probably laugh at me but I would go buy this thing brand new in a second if it gets MPGs as good or better as my Tracker and it looks like it will, boasting 59MPGs.

I would rather be driving this

Than this

So when is it coming out so I can be that looser driving that little thing

Never. The Phoenix was a 'what-if' photochop speculating what a Fiat Panda-based Jeep would look like.

That was about 2 years ago, though, and Chrysler/Fiat are going back on their plan for a Panda-based Jeep.

However, that's the bad news. The GOOD news is that there IS going to be a B-segment Jeep coming, that may or not be Panda-based, but it will probably be styled as a mini-Wrangler, complete with removable top. So, an actual replacement for the old Sidekick/Tracker, but now with a ride and build quality that'll actually make it pleasant to sit in.

THAT Jeep should start showing up around MY2013.

It's said to be about the size of the Mini Countryman, but more Jeep. Think something along the lines of the Mini Beachcomber concept:

Although they would be in the same class, I think chrysler should market the panda-based jeep as a small 4x4, not an awd.
The mini clubman has an awd option.

Interesting. I do like how my Tracker has a solid rear and manual hubs. It makes it a little more truck like.

Well, I will be avidly waiting I suppose. That Mini concept is pretty sweet. Whats the info on that? Just curious. Would rather own a Jeep!

Id rather have your tracker. Rwd based 4x4 with a regular frame, real 4wd capability and it can be modified and upgraded. I really like that Mini but how much potential would it REALLY have for someone wanting to mod it? I mean, Jeep already has the compass and patriot and theyre a big fat joke. Even tho the patriot is probably one of the more capable CUVs out there. That panda thing is WAY to dinky...the tires are the size of donuts and most americans would be crammed into that thing like sardines--Im 6'1, about about 250 not totally athletic but not a lardass either and Id have to rip out all 4 seats to drive that thing. And besides, when it gets built, theyll probably have some teen pop boy band artist promoting it...

Well, if you weren't such a fat country...

Actually, I've seen pics inside the Panda, with people of decent size in it, and it looks pretty spacious. You're not going to fit 3 across, but it's got plenty of headroom. It's bigger than the 500, but a constant theme among auto reviewers has been 'Wow, I can fir 200+ pounds/6+ feet of me in this thing really well!'

Mini's waffling on producing the Beachcomber, or something like it. They've said they're thinking about it, which basically means they're waiting to see how the Countryman that it'd be based off does. I wouldn't hold your breath for it, but the Jeep competitor will probably be similar and definitely more capable.

A Jeep/Beachcomber would be a great car for the wife!! I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Then I could upgrade to the Rubicon.
