moab rally - jeep pickup, etc

next week or so is the easter rally and I already saw some press about what to expect. if toledo factory is running at 135k production and can handle 150k, according to article i read, could a wrangler pick up make up the gap? or, is the jk8 as close as we are going to get? please speculate, share rumors, and flame out. i'd hate to buy a jk8 then have a true OEM (not mopar) version come out in 2013...

The Wrangler line is actually running at 100% capacity now. There's no space for any more production at Toledo South...currently.

However, they're currently analyzing the plant to see if they can get more production out of it-the outlook is good so far. Expect to see a substantial retooling for 2014/2015, when the Wrangler is redesigned, to address this issue.

As for a Wrangler truck, if it's coming soon, it'll come then. Manley and Marichonne have all but said that a production Jeep pickup is going to join the Wrangler lineup (Also with some potential for a wagon-bodied Wrangler version, something closer to the old SJ Cherokees or a Land Rover Defender wagon).

The Moab concepts are probably to gauge interest in whether people would rather see a Wrangler-based pickup looking like a LWB Jeep or more like the old Gladiators and J-Series trucks.

We've seen Jeep beat this drum for the last 6 years! I've got an original buyers pamphlet for the Gladiator (which I had sent from Jeep). It's great! It was an awesome concept, everyone loves it, everyone wants one. Jeep won't pull the trigger. I've started looking for that old Willy's Truck, I'm betting I'll have a 318 w/dana 44's front and back, all the body and paint done before Jeep "gets it". In case Mike or any of the others are watching - we want - A truck, a V8 Wrangler, a Diesel everything and no more Sticker packages.

this topic, beaten well, seems to really catch people's ire or joy. the j-8 with the tiny engine, 2.8 diesel, looks so great on paper too. gas in norcal is now $4.5X a gallon...another hot topic..

This topic IS beaten to death....but there's a good reason for that. The demand for a Jeep pickup isnt going anywhere.

My $.02 is that since they have plans of chopping the balls off the Liberty, why not just discontinue it altogether. Dodge already has the Journey which is a comparably sized CUV and it sells just fine as a Dodge. Why dilute Jeeps brand image? Just use the production facility for the Liberty to shoulder the brunt of the Jeep pickup/lwb 2-door models.

The Liberty isn't a Journey competitor. The Journey seats 7 and is already larger than the exisiting Liberty, and the next-gen Liberty is getting smaller. It's more of a Compass replacement. Think 3/4 scale Grand Cherokee.
